@@mattsmith2051 I could play chords, barre chords, strum, but could never put a song together, with Dave's videos, I learned to watch the video with the strum pattern and chords in the upper right corner, some songs I had to slow the song down with the settings icon but learned to play up to speed . Dave has a program in his site where you learn to switch between chords which helped me play withease.

FYI to all those beginners as me out there, strugling with the F barred chord it can be sustitued by F played like a C but with the 2nd and 3rd finger a string lower. thus: Fret 1 string 2. Fret 2 string 3, fret 3 string 4. and you can add the pinky finger in the 3rd fret first string. I think that's called Fadd9. Is a lot easier than the barred F and sounds very well in this song.

You can also use this shape and mute string 1 by holding your index finger against it as you press string 2 fret 1.

Yeah, F barre chord. Ugh. I bought a thinner neck guitar to help with this as I have very tiny hands, and it did help even with F but ffs it still is a pisser.

@@ai__ninja How? My hands have an easier go with the barre if the other way I know you are talking about which is holding down 1+2 on the first fret instead of the finger all the way over the first fret (like a kapo).

@@werwuff G (the 4 finger G chord) is a pita that I have to concentrate on, but fingering is no issue. Now get to the chord, and back out in a song I am not sure how that will happen. I am still stuck in module 1 of Justin Guitar's courses (for eight months) so I am losing interest in Guitar completely now.

Mastering the intro/verse of this song, with the optional notes, was my first challenge after picking up a guitar a few weeks ago. All I have left to do is to memorize the chorus and I’ll have my first full song in my pocket. Thanks for the great lesson, I couldn’t have done it this fast without your help.

@@samuelshasa yup, as long as I use a modified F instead of the full barre F I can play it. Unfortunately I'm still not fast enough at getting the full barre F in place to make it sound right. This did end up being my first song learned from end to end. The second was 'Wish You Were Here' by Pink Floyd. The chorus on that one is more difficult not because the chords are hard but it's difficult to emulate David Gilmour's strumming.

You taught me my first ever song Take on me - aha (Last of us 2 Ver.) ever since then I've been coming back and I have only been able to pickup songs from you. You're an outstanding instructor I truly appreciate you Dave! GuitarZero2Hero I’ve also read your guitarzerotohero principals and thought this was an excellent resource. I have developed my plan and broken it down, my only failing is the daily scheduling of practice and time on the guitar. This then leads to frustration when I do get the opportunity as it feels like I’m starting all over again 🙄 Strumming is my biggest struggle, I’d significantly value a lesson on developing this area of skill set. I’m sure this is something other beginners would greatly value too

I learnt this song by remembering the C Chord is at the start of each verse. In other words the first word in verse one which is I, starts with a C Chord. Seeing the Am up front can sometimes be confusing.

For the Am the 6th string should never ring out or be played. So I think what you're asking is how I accent it. On the down beats I strum most of the chord or play it harder, on the + beats I focus on just the bass notes of the chord so the 5th/4th strings of the Aminor

If you keep your pinky on the high e for each strum in the chorus it sounds a bit more like the recording. Play the f like the one comment said to.
