@Bloodyrebel I just found this song and have listened to both versions. i think I relate more to Johnny's take - because at my age I'm closer to the end than the beginning. But Johnny Cash's take on this song is a gut punching make me bawl like a baby masterpiece. I remember when this song was a lot newer and everyone understood the message and felt it, but now somehow the next generation completely forgets everything and needs scientific proof of a song, most of this generation can't even dissect music and are trying to question others as if something isn't right. From the greatest highs and feelings of invincibility to the oblivion of addiction and the ever-encompassing sadness. He sang this song -Hurt, because he LIVED it. There are a lot of songs that can cut deeper than this one does. Many of them are considered Gothic. Gothic music is a genre that is greatly misunderstood by people who don't listen to it. It's a genre that the music industry can't seem to wrap it's head around, as well. So if you are interested in hearing them, don't get turned away by the label, "Gothic." I guaranty you have heard and liked at least 1 Gothic song, without even realizing it was Gothic. They are used in movies quite often. Many of them have made the charts.

@@prayunceasingly2029 from what I read in the Johnny cash museum was that his first wife left him because she couldn’t put up with his lifestyle as he had fallen into drugs. But June helped him recover from his addiction and that’s when he gave himself to God. I think that’s a true testament of no matter how bad you might think you are, there is always hope.
