Imagine being so narcissistic that you believed that if you told your parents your affair partner was pregnant in front of everyone you could talk away your infidelity as a good thing. The way he arranged his speech told that he had been rehersing it for awhile and never even thought about the possibility that the parents may be in on it. About this and also unrelated, I once heard my dad say that living together before marriage opens the door to promiscuity and the devaluation of intimacy, and he is not even religious 😂 Aside from religious motives, I don't understand either. It is the wisest thing to see if two people are compatible in a daily aspect before committing to coexistence for life.

The moment op mentioned the husband's demanding behavior, regarding her wardrobe and souvenir magnets, I knew immediately the marriage was doomed. The husband has no right to behave that way ( the clothes I would understand if she had a large amount and wasn't wearing them). The fact he doesn't want her to add her own personal touch to the house, indicates he doesn't really see her as a wife.

I definitely have to disagree with what OP’s mother said about what her husband did. Because what he did wasn’t strange. It was toxic and manipulative. It wasn’t bad enough that he kept making OP change things about herself and demanding that she do things but he also got it in his head for some reason that OP was cheating on him, more than likely driven by insecurity, so he thought that he had the right to look through her phone and delete messages from her friends and family. And on top of all of that he decided to present his affair partner to his parents and then he had the nerve to justify his affair by claiming things that were not true. And I personally think that OP’s mother was wrong about what she said that her husband was the only man who would be willing to be in a relationship with her as well as being a loving husband because if OP’s husband was truly loving then he wouldn’t have cheated in the first place or tried to control everything about OP’s life. OP is definitely NTA and I honestly hope that she buries him in court.

The most hypocritical and anger inducing thing about dating is having a partner cheat on you while they themselves are having an affair and being controlling. My ex gf cheated on me for months, while being extremely paranoid I was talking to other women and wasn't allowed to have friends who are female, despite her being the type who only has male friends and was just "one of the guys". I called her out on her hypocrisy one day and she looked like a dear in the headlights, and never gave me a straight answer besides gaslighting the hell outta me afterwards. The only silver lining is that now I know which red flags to pay attention to, with the male friends thing being in the top 5 lol
