"I think Tomb Raider 4 is becoming my favourite" made me so glad since it's my all time favourite TR game 🤩 Can't wait for the remasters!!!

I didn’t mention in the last part but for the longest time, I thought those things that the secret door was in were toilet stalls or changing room cubicles for the library baths or something like where the first fire wraith spawned. However looking closer, I can see they are indeed cubbyholes of scrolls as the library had IRL, kind of like the niche cubby items & switches. The scrolls & shelves are so low res compared to everything else in the game they looked like a fancy pattern on an upper class toilet cubicle door. I see you must have known since 1999 what they really were.

I could never figure out that mechanical scarab as a kid. I wasn't a fan of these obscure puzzles, but as I grow older the more I appreciate them.

I find that too about a lot of classic TR. I loved it as a kid, but often didn't "get" it. Experiencing it all again now is eye-opening.

The two giant portraits in the hall of Demetrius, one of them is a portrait of the first Greek Pharaoh Ptolemy I (the one with the white clothes), Alexandria was founded by Alexander the Great (Macedonian Greek). That's why the levels of this game such as: Alexandria, Coastal Ruins, Catacombs, The Temple of Poseidon, The Lost Library and the Hall of Demetrius have more of a Greek or Hellenistic architectural style. After Alexander the Great died he left the command of Alexandria in Egypt to his friend and general Ptolemy I and from there the Ptolemaic dynasty reigned in Egypt, the last heiress of the Ptolemaic dynasty was Cleopatra VII (she inherited both nationalities, she was part Greek and Egyptian). The game is beautiful and the levels are well designed for the time it was released (1999).

Crazy how this was released a mere 3 years after the first TR, and yet it looks as if a lifetime has passed between the two

The level was seperated probably because of memory issues as always. In the data files this level is called "libend" indicating it was always intended as the ending part of the library.

I remember playing this level for first time, with the scarab and the biggest mistake I did, while using it for nothing, just to see what it does. After that when I realised that I have limited times to use it, after when it just exploded, while trying to use it for the next trap... That was so nasty 😱 I was not able to progress in the game just because I used only one save, which I overwrote and automatically stuck myself it this level, making it impossible to progress any further... It was a big shock for me, because I got too far and then I just had to start the whole game from the start, because of this little, stupid mistake 😱😱😭😭😭 And got so demotivated... But, thankfully, I had an idea just to start the game, using another memory card (on the ps1), on which my grandfather had multiple saves from different levels and I just jumped over a little bit😅😆🤣🤣 Back then, I didn't enjoy the city section, after the Cleopatra's palaces... And jumped over it as well, and got to the next one, then removed the memory card and put mine and saved. And... This is how I finished this game for first time😂🤣🤣🤣 But, as it's my favourite core tomb raider, I replayed it again and again and every time I was so cautious with this scarab😆 When I saw Alfredo repeating the same mistake like me, wasting one of the tries, it broke my heart 🫣😭 But as I see the next video is published, I hope he made it successfully

Chris I swear I had the same reaction when Alfredo said "I think tomb raider 4 is going to be my favorite" that made my day and then your genuine reaction to him saying that made my whole weak. (Alfredo no dirty mind I meant what I said the way I said it lmao 😂)

One of the reasons the Hall of Demetrius is a separate level instead of part of the Library is that PS1 could hold only so much geometry at once at a time in it's memory and that's why you have to go back and forth between levels.

Watching Alf play TR4 is making me too excited. I am going through a crises, my favorite has always been TR2 but now I don't even know anymore! This game is just too great, the locations are just too supernaturally beautiful! So... I guess I can say TR2 is for girls but TR4 is for women 😭❤

13:48 I think the round thing in the seaweed is meant to be a sea urchin which I mentioned in the coastal ruins video. My brother & dad thought they could sting Lara but they do nothing and are just set dressing. Funnily enough, the Maria Doria levels in TR2 had a giant jellyfish like a sea nettle or something cut from the game that could sting you. Good thing it wasn’t in TR3 or this game as they would definitely poison Lara.

I'm looking forward to how Cleopatra's statue will look remastered. And I wonder if they'll add even more foliage to the palaces :D Alfredo really likes those obscure puzzles... you know, now I hope that he'll actually love Cairo! I think Cairo isn't so bad once you know it more and know what to do, but it felt utterly confusing to me for the first (and second... and possibly third) time, so it could be fun if Alfredo liked it right away :D (Oh hey... looking forward to remastered scarabs? XD )

Torches only. Flares no longer use fire and do nothing. (TR2+3 flares are magnesium road torches. TR4+5 use party glow sticks)

Were the controls in TR4 always this bad? I remember it was fine with the keyboard back when i played it. The controller seems to make Alfredo's movements very stunted.

It’s the PlayStation D-pad that does that as they’re historically badly designed compared to Xbox, Dreamcast & Saturn.Analog is no better on PS1 TR but the Dreamcast & Saturn versions get thumbsticks & D-pads right. Respectively. On Dreamcast TR4+5, thumbstick to run and D-pad to walk is perfect.

Damn for as much i love tr 4, i can't stand those damn scarabs to a point i avoid most egypt related levels on TRLE, and kinda close my eyes in sections with them when i replay TR4. I even tried checking for mods that would replace the 3d model of them with something less disgusting, idk like small balls as placeholders? but nothing exists and alas i suck at modding... Thanks "The Mummy" movie i guess x.x, my 10 years old ass back in 1999 got traumatized for life.

Alfredo is a man of taste! TR4 to me is the ultimate iteration classic TR formula, it's just so good, with such clever designs and puzzles. What a fun episode, might be my favorite so far.. from the shark jumpscare to the "fuck fuckity fucks" because of the scarabs lmao, I enjoyed it so much. 💕💕

Thise flying creatures my god its been a fantastic journey watching, i love tr4 i can't wait for those remasers coming in February 2025 tonsee the hall of demtrius remastered, underneath tte sphinx and many more Cleopatra's palaces is amazing cant wait to see how great its going look in the remaster im so so excited I really can't wait at all! 😊♥️🫂
