@@user-mp5ww2bt7q well first, this is likely a local news agency that has done an ongoing series of stories covering the larger event and the many more people who suffered harmed due to the restaurant’s negligence. This is a segment focused solely on one of the families coping with their loss. It strikes me as a standard update/check-in piece for a story viewers reacted strongly to. And, more importantly, I believe I heard his wife died in 12 days, you think over that period the news had all the facts or even that watching news coverage trickle out would be his focus? The news has to be tipped off, gather facts, the cause takes a while to be determined for certain, the number of people needs to be accumulated and verified, etc. None of that was this man’s primary concern in the hospital! He was likely unsure of a lot. And not sufficiently knowledgeable of a legal liability certainty when he said “if” they get compensation to his wife on her deathbed. Not wanting to make promises that turn out to be a lie is NOT SUSPICIOUS. You just lack the human empathy to approach your understanding of the facts through the lens of his tragic situation.

That restaurant needs to be shut down if it isn't already. There are too many jokes about people needing health care when eating sushi that I am wary of any establishment serving it. If I were in Japan or knew the chef was extremely well trained and experienced, maybe I would eat it. But this didn't seem like a metropolitan area where someone with that level of skill would be working. So sorry for your pain, suffering, and loss. No one deserves that level of incompetence posing as a professional.

ATTENTION!!!!!! First and foremost my condolences to the affected families. RIP Donna Ventura and my thoughts are with all of those who were affected by this horrible negligence. I am a mycologist and hate to say it, but it is possible that the morels imported and served at the restaurant might have been contaminated by mold which can increase the amount of toxins contained in the morels. These morels were not domestic rather imported Chinese cultivated morels. Chinese morel mushroom farms have been found to use soil that is extremely polluted with heavy metals and they use harsh chemicals to control competing fungus, aka Fungicides, in addition to unsanitary packaging and handling. Please, please, please people do not consume raw morel mushrooms in any form or mushrooms that are imported from across the ocean. Always ask if the mushrooms are wild LOCAL mushrooms.

Thank you for that info

But I wouldn't even trust that they picked the right wild local mushrooms. As someone who is a toxic mold survivor ( mold and mycotoxins in my HVAC) I would just stay away from any possibility and avoid fungus all together. I clearly do not eat any since my system has been compromised by mold but I think people should be educated about the contamination in corn, coffee and peanuts too.

Morels are considered delicacies in my area. There is only one time a year when they appear. I would almost bet money that they were not morel mushrooms. They could have been false morels which look almost identical.

They're a delicacy everywhere. But I was thinking the same thing about them being false morels 😢
@amandabrown80865 ай бұрын
I am also from an area where they are a delicacy but it’s common knowledge that Morels can be poisonous if undercooked or eaten raw. They contain hydrazine which is highly poisonous when ingested. The cooking process effectively destroys the hydrazine. Things like drinking can compound the effects of hydrazine and essentially make the no more lethal. The husband said they now know they were raw which is the problem

I gathered morels in the woods near our home in Illinois about 50 years ago. We had so many that I dried them so I could rehydrate them and cook them later. I was a new bride from Texas at the time. What amazes me is that absolutely no one told me that the mushrooms were poisonous if not cooked. Smh. I guess everyone knew but me.

They were morel mushrooms. Six other restaurants in the California area received the same mushrooms that Dave's received. The difference is they fully cooked their mushrooms while Dave's were raw and undercooked. They made several people sick on different days and not back to back.
