Pet peeves are part of the package in a long term relationship. After 46+ years, I just try to roll with the blows. They tend to be fairly minor after so long together; we’ve pretty much beaten the major ones out of each other! Naturally, I’m practically perfect in every way now…😬

Oh my gosh, you two make me laugh! Blue, I have to agree with what others have said, you have a great laugh! It is contagious! And Matt, I love your facial expressions, especially when you know Blue is right in what he is saying😬. Your personalities compliment each other! Now to answer your question. The first two pet peeves that came to mind that drive me crazy is when my husband does not complete project’s, e.g. still waiting for him to finish putting some quarter round along our base boarding after having wood flooring put in several years ago🥴. Number 2 pet peeve (and this one quite frankly makes me mad) when he doesn’t look at/acknowledge me when I’m talking to him. He claims he hears me, but continues to watch the TV, stare at his phone, doesn’t respond etc. Drives me crazy! I could list more, but will be nice because I’m sure there are many things I do that are pet peeves to him! I love the guy, but there are those days! Enough of my rambling! Take care! I do the same thing as Matt by saying “what or huh” when someone asks me something even tho I heard them and my niece has called me out on this but the reason I do it (idk if it’s the same for Matt) is because usually I’m focusing on some other task or I’m thinking about something else so getting the person to repeat the question gives me the time to process what they actually said and create a response.

It's impossible to co-habitat with another (especially a spouse) and not have multiple pet peeves. If you love someone enough you work through them. My late wife and I certainly had ours. She was also one to leave piles of things around the house. She was a remote hog as well. Always late getting ready to go somewhere. There are others as well and I certainly had behaviors/habits that drove her crazy. I tell you though...I'd give my eye teeth to have her back leaving those piles all over the house. In the end these little things that drove us nuts just don't matter.

My husband says “What?” before the last sound of my words are done echoing. Now it turns out that he has cognitive impairment and is losing language so I have to repeat everything and often break up sentences into multiple pieces. Oh, and I went to speech therapy too as a kid. I used to irritate him by speaking slowly with lots of pauses but I think that was what I learned to keep from stuttering. In movies do people ever have pet peeves? In chick flicks, don’t people just adore each other so much that they don’t even have pet peeves? I have two pet peeves that set me off the most: stuff not where it belongs, and plastic cups. I am pretty old school with the 'a place for everything and everything in its place", so stuff left out annoys me. I do not drink out of plastic at home and don't keep plastic wear in the house. It has to be in glass or a ceramic mug.

As an autistic gay man I can relate with you both, I'd like to say with the kitchen counter , everyone likes their own "spots" in the house you live together in. Perhaps if a basket one likes very much was chosen as a gift to the other as their "spot" for outdoor trinkets and traveling items etc, then it would offer a compromise. then in the event that the space is needed, say a holiday big meal, company coming over, it would be able to be relocated and remain an easy to retrieve from "spot". Also you could have cubby-holes near your main drop zone into your home, and that could be a project you could involve you whole family to design and decorate their own cubby spot. 🌈
