I am amazed you played the original May 11, 1968 London studio version of his solo note-for-note. I haven’t heard anyone else attempt this. Excellent playing- on a very difficult instrument to play.

I can’t tell you how many times I search this video out and watch it! My grandad back in to 1970s played a Hammond organ with his Leslie speaker and I love deep purple, it’s a combination of so many memories to watch this incredible musician, thank you ❤️🙏

Well, I am hitting certain areas on the keyboard but not certain notes. Does that help. I also think unless you have an over driven hammond sound that it will not sound like you want. Drawbar wise, I would pull out the first 4 bars all the way and add just a little of the rest of the drawbars. Just do whatever sounds best with your gear. Thanks for watching and if there is anything else let me know.

Hi Pro Man, The music comes from the keyboard you see behind me. I play it in one chop at a time, doing drums, bass, e. piano, guitar, etc. by midi. Then put that into a Roland dig. recorder and add what ever back ground vocs. Then I play and sing live for the final video recording that you have just seen.

That was awesome! Would you consider a video of B3 techniques? Not just one song, but what a lot of B3 players do, like Greg Allman, Boston, Jon Lord. I think there is a lot to learn on the set up and comping, and simple patters like you just showed in "Hush". A lot of folks would like to learn from you and your talented playing.

um, are you Richard Starkey a.k.a. Ringo Starr? The last several several seconds of the clip there is a close resemblance to how he's looked the last few decades if he were to dye his hair and beard.

I meet people all the time that have no idea about the existence of the Hammond organ and Leslie speaker. That is amazing to me when you consider how important these tools are in the modern music that we hear. I would say that most Americans hear a Hammond/Leslie every day and don’t know it. We all recognize drum, guitars, etc. but not many know Hammonds. Just to get started, that is a Hammond I am playing and the thing spinning is the Leslie. The organ is being played thru the Leslie speaker.
@MG-Nordster3 жыл бұрын
Excellent rendition, yes, what a match made in heaven, Mr. Hammond and Mr. Leslie! imagine, Hammond didn't want to have his organ played thru a Leslie because Hammond was putting out speaker cabinets, i think called PR -40 and 60s. Well my CV *(early version of the C-3)came with one of those, but of course i use a Leslie 122, instead!! lol... Great playing! Im still working on my version, its not anywhere near your level. Rock on!

Tip...there are small metal cups in the back of the organ where the tone wheel generator must be oiled periodically. If u can't find real Hammond oil u can use singer sewing machine oil.

This performance of the slapping technic is really awesome. Looks so easy to do. I keep banging on my keyboard but it is definitely different :) What makes this percursion sound ? Is it the keyclick, the slapping speed ? Would you mind sharing your hammond preset ? Once again, congratulation for this performance !!
@DanteStar710 жыл бұрын
Preset something like 888854332. Depending on brightness of your keyboard. What makes this sound happen is tubes, keyclick, percussion not on, What makes the sound is really Hammond and Leslie. You can copy it to a degree with some keyboards. Study the subtle things about the playing. Little things make a big difference when it comes to stuff like this.
@DanteStar710 жыл бұрын
I was thinking about your question more and I thought I usually use 8888 for slapping. Then I looked at the video, what I used for that recording is right there. 88884. I only would add anything more if I wasn't cutting thru a mix but usually 8888. Have you had any success? I have a Roland VK7 and a Hammond XK3c. They do fine making this sound but I don't know about other keyboards. I know many have tried and failed at making good hammond sounds but even I am not interested in carry one around on any kind of regular basis.

@DanteStar712 жыл бұрын
Hi lesonajero, I was hoping that with the angle that I recorded this video that this would work for a how to play Hush video. First four chords are Bb Ab F G. Na, na, na, na..... is Ab Eb Bb F. If there is anything I can help you with let me know, but I don't think I will be doing a step by step how to in the forseeable futer just because I'm so busy.
@mccolleydw3 жыл бұрын
Laurens Hammond the inventor of the Hammond organ patented his first transmission at age 14. he was an inventor, true story one day in the lab a precision made metal wheel was spinning during an experiment and some one dropped a pin on it it made a flute like sound, that was the beginning of the Hammond organ. The Hammond organ has a tone wheel generator that creates all of the sounds. the drawbars are actually volume controls that control the volume of flute pipe sounds. if you see a pipe organ it has some pipes that are 16 ft long 8 ft long 4 ft and other shorter lengths, you'll see those markings on the drawbars. by pulling a 16-ft drawbar you increase the volume of a 16-ft flute pipe sound. the keys at the left where colors are reversed are presets that override the draw bars. There Is a tab/rocker switch for percussion or no percussion sound. Drawbar volumes go from 0 to 8 and are marked on the draw bars themselves a typical setting from left to right would be the volume of eight eight six six with the percussion tab on that would give you a very quintessential rock and roll organ sound

Can I ask is that just a Hammond and Lesley sound, or were there any distortion filters involved? I just love that sound.
@DanteStar7 Жыл бұрын
I have a wire coming off the CC terminal of the preamp in the organ like a guitar chord. It runs in to a Trek 2 UC1A then out to the Leslie. I just adjust the controls on the UC1A to sound as overdriven as I want. You could accomplish this same thing many ways.

I have gotten too busy to do videos, sorry but if I remember correctly I think several people have asked questions about how I did this song. If you read the previous comments you may find them helpful. If there is anything more specific that you would like to know' I will be glad to reply. Thanks for commenting on the video!
@eldkir8 жыл бұрын
Thank you for the quick reply! I'm doing my best to learn it by ear. That ascending, rapid repeated note/chord part is rough. Any suggestions on how to master that technique besides endless hours of practice?
@DanteStar78 жыл бұрын
That part is tough. I am sure I am not doing the chords right there. Very difficult to pick them up and I never found another recording/video of Jon Lord doing that solo original solo. I did see one video of him holding his right wrist using his left hand. That did not work for me so i came up with what I did. I think what I did captures the spirit of the solo but it is not what he did. A friend of mine in the Rock and Roll Hammond Players Facebook group does a nice version as well. facebook.com/groups/174576959545744/ His name is Dennis Toerpe. I think that is how you spell it. Let me know how your quest to conquer the song goes.
