Hi American-Outdoors.net, I also have that same splitter. I have had mine for I believe around 10 years. A couple years ago, I took the splitter to a friend of mine who owns a welding/ repair shop. No real problems with the splitter, but the size of the blocks that I was splitting was almost too much for 2 men to handle. We kicked some ideas back and forth and he asked to be given a couple of weeks to think about it some more. What he came up with was a boom to be used in the vertical position. He mounted a hand crank winch and an atv winch roller guide onto the beam. He then made a heavy duty boom with a pulley out at the top end. The cable runs from the winch out through the pulley and out to a set of logging tongs that I got a number of years ago from Northern Hydraulics, before they were Northern Tool. The tongs have very sharp pointed replaceable jaws that really bite into the huge blocks. Now just simply by cranking the winch, these huge blocks can be easily slid into place. When I split, I ran the ram down so that it pins the big blocks in place before I relieve the tension on the cable. I then just continue to spin the blocks on the foot as I split them some more. Eventually, they will no longer stay together but by that point, they are small enough that I can handle them. I discovered very quickly that the added weight of the boom made it a bear to pick up and try to hitch, unhitch, our move around. It was back to the shop and the cheap factory tongue and the drop leg stand were replaced with a much longer and heavier duty piece of 3 in tubing and a Bull dog jack. These mods have served to make what I feel was a good little splitter into a great one. I am thinking of starting my own you tube channel this winter and the splitter will be featured on the first video. Thanks for sharing yours. I really enjoyed it. Gary Foix, Iowa

I have an older model of the same splitter for 20 years, split 52 inch diameter pin oak works great!!

The leak is not in the hose. There's a small air hole in the hydraulic fluid filler plug. Fluid will leak out if the splitter is not level. Fluid can run along the under-side of the reservoir concealing the true source of the leak.

Have had the same one for about four years.. Mine came with the cradle as a value added item from Tractor Supply. Has been a good splitter.. with a few problems with carb...

Vertical mode is the best for not having to bend and lift! I do the very same thing, pull up a log to sit on, and then moving wood across the ground is soooo easy. Even smaller logs. Move the wood only horizontally, or both horizontally and vertically, the choice is yours.

Great video!! I remember splitting logs that were about 4 feet thick with this same splitter. It did it pretty good. It was easier to move the splitter to the log than it was the log to the splitter. Lol. I was able to stall it twice running wide open going thru the twisted krotch of an oak tree. There's tons of these splitters around.

I have had the same unit for more than 10 years do the same run it out of gas never had an issue.It never let me down splitting any size log. Never changed HYD OIL just the filter several times and added oil as needed.Hyd oil will last a long time as long as it doesn't get moisture in it.

The worst gas is that with ethanol in it. Project Farm did a test where he stored gas with enthanol and eve some with so called stabilizers in it. The ethanol does major damage to the aluminum components of the carburetor/fuel system.

What part number and how much does it cost for the seal kit for the cylinder? Mine is 4 inch bore x 1.75 shaft.

So I was given an older SpeeCo 25 ton brand log splitter with a Tecumseh Formula 8 engine on it. The splitter looks identical to your Huskee spliter in this video. It didn't run and had little to no compression. I rebuilt the engine and got it running. I want to replace the hydraulic oil filter but the filter has nothing on it. I am having a hard time finding any info on my spitter. I was hoping I could get the Hydraulic oil filter number off of your splitter with hopes that I might be the right size for mine. Thanks.

Wondering if you've tried one of those kinetic log splitters? I've never tried one. Just watched on KZbin. I have a 25 ton hydraulic. We burn about 8 cord a year.

Once you use a wood maxx splitter, you'll never touch a hydraulic splitter for the rest of your life. Hydraulic Splitters are pretty much a joke compared to kinetic splitters

If used in the winter (under 40 degrees) , do you have to use auto transmission fluid instead of hydraulic fluid? About how long will the engine run on a full tank? Enjoyed the video. Very informative.

I believe the coldest I've used the splitter was likely in the 30s and it was stored inside before using, so I cannot comment on the fluids, other than to say the function never slowed down in spite of temps. Of course fuel usage depends on the throttle speed, and I tend to lose time when splitting, but it seems like about an hour or more between fill ups.

I have one of these. I have used it in low teens the fluid was fine but very hard to start. when it would fire you have to reach around to the front of the engine to work the prime to keep it going for the first 30 seconds or so. the hydraulic fluid warms up pretty quick.

Veety well done video. I do wish you would have covered splitting wood with knots in it. Most of use do not have the luxury of the no-knot wood you chose to use.

Nice video` what. Kind of cradle is that, and do you have a 4 way wedge for it?
@American-OutdoorsNet6 жыл бұрын
The cradle is an accessory that may or may not be included depending on when you purchase the splitter. The cradle is definitely worth the money. No, I haven't used a 4 way wedge yet. Of course every spring I make a mental note to.

why not put your atv cart on the rack side also....then there is no stooping over to pick up the splits to take them to your stacking zone.

Am I the only one who can smell this video 😂 I love the smell of splitting hickory. And also we only use REC-90 gas in all of our small engines.

@drewprobus98447 жыл бұрын
great video. i am buying a 32 ton huskee from neighbor. barely used. how often do you change the hydraulic fluid in these?
@American-OutdoorsNet7 жыл бұрын
I believe the owner's manual states after the first 25 hours and then every 100 hours or every season. I'm a pretty heavy user of my unit during spring and fall and I don't change it that often but I expect Husky, like most manufacturers, are going to lean towards short intervals.

I thought you said you was gonna bust hickory instead you busted red oak .I got 5 huskee logs spliter I sell 450 cords a year.and it's about that time again
@American-OutdoorsNet7 жыл бұрын
I did split hickory. The segment may have ended up on the editing room floor, so to speak. The red oak, stringy and with a lot of knots and crotch cuts, was a harder split compared to most of the other hardwoods I've used. Thanks for watching.

Thanks for the vid... I have a splitter for the gnarly stuff ...the straight grained stuff you're doing in the vid will explode off a fiskars axe...and our backs hurt more from using the splitter haha
