They got exposed on film for every team the rest of the way in the Big 10. A bowl game would be a miracle, too bad for Dylan that the defense and special teams are so terrible.
@shogunjobuАй бұрын
They need to run the ball better I agree but other teams imo are gonna continue to play nebraska with stopping the run as #1 key. We aren't good enough to just run it if they are loading the box. If I was a D cord playing nebraska I would still use the game plan of stop the run game and make the fresh QB beat us.
@ChosenPlaysYTАй бұрын
We can stop treating Tony White like a messiah. He has a top 30 defense once in his career, and it was in the Big10 west. They had more talent and got out-coached, while being less intense with a home field advantage. The reffing was also a 10+ point swing. I’m sick of the terrible reffing. I’m sick of only existing for the sole purpose of giving other programs fun hyped up wins at the end of the game. Ohio St is gonna beat us by 60, and any close game we won’t be good enough to overcome the reffing difference.

I was in the South endzone and at halftime all our kickers missed every single warmup kick but maybe 1. From 20/25/30. They just kept backing up and missing. There was no kick till you make it and move back. Meanwhile Illinois kicker was 15 yards behind our guys on the hashes just nailing 40+ yard field goals. It was embarrassing.

I agree but another opportunity missed. This program's streak of futility is hard to comprehend. 25 straight losses to ranked teams. Terrible record in one-score games. Scoreless in OT since 2014. Longest streak among P5 teams without a bowl game. Last time in one of the CFP Bowls is 2001 Rose. One winning record in the last ten years. No other P5 team can claim these combined futilities. None.

We need to SERIOUSLY get a statistician on this show to explain to us how improbable it is for us to win 1/19 1-score games. Lose 7 OT’s in a row. Score zero points in 7 OT’s in a row. Lose 25 straight games against ranked teams etcetera etcetera….

Another good show! I couldn’t get on in the moment but bookmarked this to listen this morning. A few thoughts in reflection: 1. I continue to believe in the coaches & this team. I hoped we would be undefeated going into Ohio State but wasn’t optimistic we’d get that done. One loss doesn’t end the season. 2. We must be more physical. WR’s must secure the ball & not let guys take it from them. They must also fight through contact & play the ball in the air. We’ve seen examples where they didn't do either. That said, they’re talented & have made some good plays we haven’t seen in a few years also. They must also block better or play guys who will. 3. Lots of talk about the D-line. Guys there are 3 of them & 3 backers. The larger issue is at backer & secondary on the edges. The secondary plays off mostly, looks like lots of zone. The Illini played man & zone but even in zone they were aggressive. If we need to stop the run, we likely need another big on the D-line. You can play 4 down, which we do but if 2 of them are giving up 40-60 pounds on the edges, it explains a lot. 4. We give up on the run & get pass happy. You’re saying Sat called a good game, along with Coach MR. A commitment to the run means you don’t abandon it when it gets stuffed (see the Steelers this past Sunday or Michigan on Saturday). The Illini wore us down b/c they ran it even after we stopped them. They wanted a fourth quarter game. We can’t wear guys down if we thrown it 3 straight times. Their commitment to run made the play action & RPO’s they ran work. We abandoned our run when it got hard.we can’t say we’re committed & then be afraid to do it throughout the game. If we want to be physical, we must decide we will run the rock more consistently. 5. If we believe in our guys, then believe in them when it’s hard, don’t get cute. For instance, we have our 3rd string TE running a route that Nelson or Fidone should have been running. Yes, Dylan overthrew him, but why is that player running that route. Dylan put air under that ball & Liddenmeyer was too slow. We praise Dylan for his ability to throw to a spot & expecting his guys to be there. He did so that time but we didn’t have a guy in who could get there. Why is he in there? I like Dylan b/c he’ll own the overthrow, the coaches need to own their personnel decisions on that play. Also, why not trust EJ to run in the 2nd half as we said we would? 6. Special teams must be figured out. It’s costing yardage & points. 7. The defense must be allowed to play with abandon. Their tackling needs work. We must understand how teams (based on last two games) are attacking us & and make adjustments. Ty, Nash, & Butler must be a bit better but we need more from other 8 guys against the run. Bullock has been the most reliable. Ceyair Wright played aggressively. I don’t mind the holding call against him because even there he was aggressive. This is a big week. I think they can get it done. I don’t care about early season rankings. What matters when you’re ranked is that it’s real. We were exposed & yet, we played into overtime making mistakes. The potential is there. I’m tired of seeing those mistakes also but I can’t pretend we aren’t doing some things better. Also we have a great young QB. Our coaches must be better & I believe they will be. We have to start beating these types of teams if to get back to where we say we want to go. There are no easy weeks in the B1G GBR!
@geekstradamus1548Ай бұрын
We either make makeable field goals, or don’t commit 4 personal fouls. And we win. And everyone is happy. That’s all it takes. Without the penalties a lot of that rush yardage for Illinois don’t happen because the drives would have ended. But if you gift the other team first downs, then they get to run more plays, and they are allowed to try and take advantage of those extra plays. Shocking, I know, but it’s been that way in football for quite a long time.

We were sold a bill of goods. We are not playing "Championship football" and we won't this season. Tony White was outcoached, period. All those HC jobs that were expected to come his way? Indiana is going to take a dump on this defense though, and the original predictions of 7.5 wins looks like the ceiling for this team.

It's a simple numbers issue on the running plays. Cover 2 with a rover blitzing both backers inside.. there's nobody there to make a play but the rover who is 10 yards deep. Gotta get players in the position to make the play. Poor coverage for the run play called over and over by Illinois. I expect they'll see that and make adjustments on their coverage calls in the future.

Good god, pump the brakes on the hype & negative talk too. It maybe a one game thing. we shall see We have to stack some wins and seasons together. I kept saying stop saying this schedule is easy. Stop crowning folks before theyve earned it. Husker fans are sometimes stuck in the mud saying out dated things like 'we should never lose to Illinois '. College football has changed. Im not saying succumb to mediocrity at all [ dont be a c u next tuesday] , but its different. Shoot they PAY players now. Illinois has been to bowl games recent while we have not. This is a program problem losing close games and unfortunately, this program is too far gone to win them
@jaredvilla8685Ай бұрын
This is getting really old. People can’t seem to manage their expectations. People sit here and nitpick the team but in reality, a lot of fans are extremely immature. Media included. Eventually it becomes a vicious cycle to where nobody is ever satisfied and the program just continues to make terrible decisions because of the loud negative Nancys out there. Y’all sit here and scrutinize the program and expect perfection. I sure hope y’all are on your A-game every day of the week. Kinda like how you expect this football team to be. It’s frustrating as a Husker fan to see the team lose, but it’s just as frustrating to see immature fans heavily criticizing the program when at the end of the day, the coaches and players are just people. And the fact of the matter is there is still a lot of visible progress.
@jaredvilla8685Ай бұрын
If this team was just trash, I could understand the criticism. But in my opinion, it’s unwarranted this early in the second season. I think fans have PTSD from the past. The close losses are a rollover from Frost. They’re not a Rhule problem. Folks need to be patient and let this thing play out. We don’t need to be quick to run good coaches out the door because of our impatience. Rhule’s an awesome coach with solid judgment and a good eye for what a great football team looks like. I think he’ll get the problems fixed. Doesn’t mean it’ll be overnight.
