I remember replacing a lot of copper head gaskets on kawasaki 2 stroke street triples. I wish they made new chainsaws like that because pulling a head and looking at cylinder condition would be a lot easier.

I always use a light coating of grease on the base gasket

From one tech to another tech when we do complete rebuilds intake boot gets replaced rather it's bad or not , seen to many people put new top end cylinder kit and use old boot then it means out and blows again .

Is the gasket necessary? Didn't get one when I got my position and cylinder.

If you don't run a gasket then the piston will be closer to the top of the cylinder at top dead center. In some cases it might even hit it. Compression will be higher. A saw builder would measure squish before just deleting a gasket and calling it good. I'm not a saw builder so I would run a gasket and be safe.

Is the piston stop you used a Husqvarna tool or did you make it?

Its just a piece of rope. Be careful to have the piston above the exhaust port before inserting rope and then turn cylinder in the direction that brings the piston up first. This way the rope won't get caught in a port.

@@TheGreasyShopRag I was referring to the white plastic looking block you used to stabilize the crank when you were installing the piston. You referred to that as a piston stop.
