I had the same issue with my Husky compressor. So after watching your video I took mine apart. Everything went well untill it was time to remove the wheel with the counter weight. I could not get it off and I tried several different gear pullers. I ended up taking the case with the rotor and wheel attached to a mechanic who used an air chisel with a prying fork attached he popped the wheel off with a few trigger pulls of the air chisel. Unfortunetly the case suffered a few chips around the seal outer surface. I don't think it will be a problem. I''m now in the process of putting it all back together. The new seal and rotor went on easily as did the wheel with the counter weight. Thanks for your video it made my repair a whole lot easier.

Hey, I'm glad the video helped you out. Ya, that flywheel is a real challenge - I spent a LOT of time getting that thing off. I can say the repair is worth it as mine is still going strong with no leaks. Good luck and thanks for watching!

Cool stuff man I love it. It's a still a perfectly good compressor and best to keep it out the landfill. I have a harbor freight one I bought for a couple bucks at a yard sale 10 years ago. It was leaking oil at that baffle. I couldn't get parts for it so I just removed it and used rtv sealant. It's still runs strong and is leak free to this day.

to get the wheel off I drilled two same size holes that were equidistant from the center and tapped thread in. then used a homemade bearing puller with bolts in the holes to pull it. Worked perfectly.

Thanks for doing this video, super helpful as there isn’t much info out there on this issue. I have a larger Porter Cable compressor with the same leaking issue. I have it torn down and my parts should be here today. My compressor differed slightly in that the seal is on the outside and the inner bearing is unsealed and sits in the oil reservoir. I may put the seal on the inside and use a sealed bearing, haven’t decided lol. Thanks again!

Good video. Is the seal standard or is there a specific measurement for each compressor?
@mainejason
@mainejason Жыл бұрын
Thank you. My assumption would be that each is different. I would take a measurement of the inner and outer diameter with a caliper to ensure a proper fit on the particular unit ( or the seal may have the part number stamped into it as was the case with mine ). Great question, and thanks for watching!

Hey I have a problem there is oil in my air coming out of compressor what might be the issue ?
@mainejason
@mainejason 6 ай бұрын
I guess it can depend on the type of compressor you have, but on small compressors like the one in the video, it could be too much oil in the reservoir, or leaking piston rings. Hope that helps, and thanks for watching!

I have a very similar compressor always leaked a fair amount at that seal. Thought about taking it apart. One day I was looking at the fill plug to see if it was venting. I took it apart and found the vent hole flashed over with a thin piece of plastic that should not be there. I poked it though now it barely leaks. Wow I put up with that for many years. Pressure was building up in crank case and blowing oil passed the seal

Mr. Jason, In the past I had rubber parts shrink after cleaning them or they died out. One time I remember clearly I soaked it in WD40 and well-la came back to normal size. Some rubber parts can swell too much or not at all depending on type of rubber with this method. Since it clearly shrank it was a good candidate for this method. Thanks again for pulling that compressor apart for us to see! That is something I would do.

Great idea! I'll file away the WD40 trick for future use.

recently came home with a compressor from the local dump. started it up and oil came squirting out of the oil cap. any ideas as to why that would happen? Eagle compressor. My issue is cannot find any sites for parts. Any suggestions would be great. Great video!!!

Off the top of my head - either too much oil in the system or it was tipped over and the oil collected up high. Maybe drain and refill to the proper lever ( so you are sure of the level ). If it was tipped, it should settle back down with time. I have no hands on with an Eagle brand compressor, but they all have similar parts. First thing I'd do is Google the model number and collect any manuals and exploded-parts-views I could find. Most likely you can get part numbers and continue your search from there. It's a process! Good luck, and thanks for watching!

I'm not sure what the torque spec is on that bolt but it'd aluminum so it can't be much. I usually go to finger tight then a little more with a wrench. Are the mating surfaces clean and free of burrs or foreign matter? I don't think therevis a gasket or crush washer ( there isn't on mine ). I suppose you could try making a gasket from cork or gasket material, but it shouldn't be necessary. Good luck, and thanks for watching!
@joedelpopolo4087

I cleaned up the surfaces pretty good and i did try a rubber like oring but it just mashed outwards of where i needed it to stay, I also tried gasket maker that you would use when changing a water pump or engine heads or valve covers. and plumbers tape but it just shredded up as the bolt went in weird. but a cork gasket sounds hopeful. you think if I try and find a nylon bolt or something that can withstand the head that would work? if all fails I'm moving to JB weld and will worry about it when its oil change time again. but that a last resort. I could see it now the headache I will be putting myself through trying to remove JB weld to prevent my next oil leak dilemma... lol well thanks I'll give the cork a try

As a service engineer I have a case where they haven't drained the compressor for three years and when it started to spray oil on their wall, they finally decided to call us. So, the compressor tank was filled with the combination of condensated water and lots of oil. Should the tank have this much oil, and if not, what could be the problem? I read somewhere the separator could be broken, which separates air and the oil used for lubrication.
@mainejason
@mainejason Жыл бұрын
Being a service tech, you would probably know the answer better than I. If the compressor you are looking at is lubricated in the same way as the one in the video i, I'd start by checking the piston rings. The oil may be blowing by the rings and entering the tank that way. Good luck! Thanks for watching.

@@mainejason I have Masters in chemistry and I just recently started working as the service engineer for Chromatography instruments so this is a foreign field for me. But I did manage to find the error. A fair amount of oil in the tank is normal, that's the emulsion, but the separator broke down and couldn't filter the air. Also since it wasn't drained for a very long time and the pressure went over the limit, the safety valve released the air which was coated with oil. Thank you for your time, keep up the great work!

@@mainejason thanks one more thing is the flywheel supposed to have a lot of resistance Mine has a little compression should it be a little hard to turn ?
@mainejason
@mainejason Жыл бұрын
@@boostboyracing Honestly, I don't remember turning by hand with the piston connected. I can say that when I replaced the seal, there was more resistance as compared to the old seal - but I believe at that point, I had removed the piston so it was just the seal and bearings that I was feeling. Hope that helps, and let me know how it goes!
