Did the muffler mod make much difference? I have two of these saws and really like them , my old faded and rough looking one runs loads better than my shiny new looking one, I'm going to try and get it to run as good as the other so thinking thinner gasket and muffler mod.

Biggest reason I do muffler mod's on my saw's is not to just make noise it's to reduce heat build up that's what kill's two stroke's they like to flow. Like most Husqvarna saws of this era they used different cylinders from different manufactures on these 254's, all were closed port but some ran stronger then others I think there was three different cylinder suppliers in their production run but I won't get into what was what here. My saw is one of those that does run very strong pulls hard in the cut did the muffler mod make a huge difference no but it did gain some overall and it has a lot better throttle response very snappy now spools up fast, it still has it's base gasket as well so only a muffler mod on it. I welded a big ugly direct outlet into the front of the muffler is it the best or only way to do it of course not, I could have still cut out the internal restricted baffle system and opened up the original outlet more and it would have worked good also; I have a couple more of these saw's in my junk pile so I will probably do a muffler mod that way in the future would leave the saw looking "factory original". More saw building fun in the work's of various model's and brand's.

@StuInTheSticks I can't remember but I think my good runner has a decomp and is newer even though it looks older and beat up but squish is about 22 tho ,the clean looking one doesn't have a decomp and squish is around 33tho, I'm going to try and get it running better when I have the time.
