Just picked up 2 $20. Saws . Old craftsman 42cc, advertised as 40cc ,18" bar. Strato. And the real find. John 🦌 deer 56cc made it Italy dirty but cleaned up well, needs bacisic ,carb rebuild, fuel lines . Had it running, sounds snotty

You can put a 55 tank on a 262 if you use 254/257 AV mounts, but that's about it for interchange on a 262 besides the ignition coil. The 154/254 share the tank, handle, clutch, and muffler. The 357 replaced the 254, the 262 was replaced by the 362(47mm dual port cylinder version of the 371 chassis.)

Im confused on what you mean for interchange. I got a 257 with a after market 262 topend on it i just built this week. Only parts not used from the 257 was cylinder,piston,intake block. The rest works. Same 257 filter, same 257 top cover

262 was rated for up to a 28” bar. It does have decent torque in stock form. 12.5 blowdown stock. Not saying it handles 28” well but that’s what it’s listed to handle. Still a primitive dual port cylinder

The 2 series saws are some of the best around. It's a big ask for a 28" bar on a 60cc saw. Ported or not

Does that 262 have low compression or something? It dont run near as good as it should , i have never seen one get beat by a stock 359, ,357xp, super380 etc.

Quite possible. I mean, it doesn't feel like it has low compression, but I don't think it has ever been apart, and it is very well worn. Might need a rebuild I guess. But it runs great.

A 262 is hard to crank with the compression it have. It as really high compression. My ported 262 is a fantastic saw, limbing cutting , do everything.

There is no way a 359 or a 357 would ever beat a 262. We used 262 357 cutting pine logs and pulpwood. The 262 would fly. The others would fall flat. Dull chain? Bad carb?

All I can tell you is it runs great and they both had the same bar and chain, so... these are the results.

@@juiceareevil9440 Ya know, I've had people say things like this with all sorts of different saws. I think folks get caught up in nostalgia. I had one guy saying this kind of stuff with a saw that he later discovered was ported. The whole time he just thought they all were fast, turned out he had been running a ported saw the whole time. Just saying. All I can do is test the saws, and share my results.

I had a 262 and ran it till the PTO side broke off the crank then I gave it away...lol. I wasn't crazy about that saw either.

Been there, done that. No thanks. I have done a LOT of different jobs. Film industry was the hardest job I ever had. No joke. 12-18 hour days, standing all day, and everyone around me was completely ignorant of anything else besides the film industry. It was unbearable. But you eat well. Everything is catered.
