There is an updated intake boot available from Husqvarna. Or Just cut the plastic clamp part off the original intake boot. Clean it up and use the metal clamp to reassemble. I’ve done it on a couple saws, works great.

Did you have to remove the cylinder head to do the job?

What promotes a good ring seal to make power & prevent blow by into the future....Gas pressure! How do we achieve that? Rpm & load. Idling a recently built saw is the opposite of what is required. 'Heat cycling' is a term from an old era where tolerances in parts were nowhere near what they are today. If a part is to fail it will do so wether or not you 'heat cycled' the saw. After a short brief warm up get that thing into good size wood @WOT. U will end up with a saw that makes more power and compression. Don't want to upset anyone...but its the truth.

Can't wait to see more with this saw. These and the 346xp are 2 of my favorite hotrod saws! They respond to mods very well and in my opinion this is the best 60cc class saw until the 562 came along. And I know there's a bunch of people that disagree, but these can easily best the beloved 262xp!

I just picked up a 359 for a 100 bucks. Guy shot it with a parts cannon. Replaced the cylinder, piston, carb, fuel line, fuel filter and spark plug. It wont start but will pop with fuel directly in the carb. I'm betting impulse line. I'll be watching what you do with this saw closely. Looking forward to more Tinman!

Check the carb for a vent in the diaphragm cover as tinman mentioned. Seen it be a problem many times. And as Tinman mentioned, afleetcommand has a saw college video where Bob(spike60) shows the carb issue in detail. (Search afleetcommand 357xp)

Now your cooking 357/359 are great saws and you can get parts! My 262 xpg is great saw But can’t take to tree job. damage saw it’s done. 357 has small 095 mount. My issue is 562xpg has D009 mount not the same! What you should try is get 359 with no stuffers And see if you can get it to out perform 357!

These saws are definitely screamers! Like a bigger 346xp....and if it was me, I'd go with an OEM top end even if it needs one. The meteor is about the same money and although 1mm bigger bore, no match for the stock one from the factory. And I've not been able to match the OEM cylinder ported either. (Both ported)

I have a later model 357xp since brand new (2008). Manual decomp, carb has a vent hole, and metal clamp on the intake. Maybe Husky fixed issues on later years of this saw?
@johncoleman24952 жыл бұрын
You can cut the tabs off and reuse the intake and bellows. I've seen it done and most times it worked but a couple I've seen leaked. The kit to upgrade all 3 parts is cheap and the route I always go. I plug the decomps exactly the same way! Although I've always used yamabond as a thread sealer.

Why do you pull the cord as you turn it off?
@sweetpea26272 жыл бұрын
When the motor slows to a speed that lets the starter pawls lock back into the pulley it turns the starter the wrong way and puts stresses on all the parts, pulling the rope out gives slack in the system and less wear to your saw,

Auto decomp and plastic intake the demise of many 357s . The plastic intake clamp has been used many husqvarna and jonsered saws and were their demise. When I run into this I change the whole partition and clamp and call it good. Walbro 199 is the problematic carb.

I had a model 61 back when I had switch problems until one time I took it in the guy took the switch out and I said could I see that and I noticed it was not sealed I asked is there a seal switch in another saw sure enough and the problem was gone
@Steve_K_MS6602 жыл бұрын
It is possible that the reason the crankcase was so black is that the decomp was leaking while running. So it would be cycling exhaust in with the fuel air mixture causing it to run lean. I believe Tin-Man pointed out that it was lean in the last video on this saw. The auto decomp was operated by crankcase vacuum I would hazard a guess that it was stuck open with carbon(I have replaced decomp’s on many hot saws over the years for that reason) causing the power stroke and exhaust to vent into the crankcase. I hope this explanation helps anyone in the comments that is new to two cycle engines.

what is the deal with pulling the starter while shutting off the saw? 🤔
@jameswilson3222 жыл бұрын
It saves on the recoil and cord , when u shut the saw off it pulls backwards on the string , pulling it out a bit gives it a little room to go backwards. I think , never tried it

All you do with the intake block and the new clamp is you remove the rubber and trim the plastic clamp portion away and then the new clamp just squeezes on the rubber boot
