Filmed right after July 4th, 2020.
Both saws are bone stock. A few new “rubber” components like carb kit, tank vent, oil line, etc. installed on the 2100 as they were most likely original and deteriorated badly.
This the same 2100 seen the previous video on the Hotsaws101 channel -
‘Ol Skool 2100 CD, ‘Ol Skool Axe Trick. It’s 2021!
I reviewed my stash of IPLs. Seems like the 2100 model was introduced in 1978. It’s hard to remember that far back….
Based on the Husqvarna 1100 which came in at 6.2 factor rated HP as far as I know.
Adding to the video dialog and furthering the setting the record straight(er), this 2100CD is a 1984 vintage mo-chine that was used very little. It suffers greatly from the “govenator” (governor) that came on the later saws to keep the rpms limited before the “fancy” coils could do the job. We see it struggling to run above 10,000 rpms but we also watch it only give up 600 rpms in the cut going down. The 2100s suffer from a much smaller venturi in the carburetor than either the 394 or 395. They have a much smaller muffler volume as well as a more restricted internal design.
Under pressure, that is as equal as a man can apply, we watched the 2100 and 395 run virtually the same times going down. Coming up we watched the 395 post a faster time but with EXPONENTIALLY less pressure on the handle bar & pistol grip from the altitude of the test log. As seen in the 2100 coming up, I had the log leveraged on its’ heals quite impressively. The 2100 only dropped 840 rpms. Again, a torque machine the 2100s are.
Stops. Well, down 100 miles ranging from .104 to .114 and reiterating, I take the rakers down free hand.
IMHO the 2100 had the worst of the knots as well.
The HP rating on the 395XP dialog was cut off. Current “factory” number on the website is 6.6HP. Down from the 7.1 of before. Thinking there was a typo issue along the way somewhere…
21.6 pounds for the 395.
23.6 pounds for the 2100.
Just for kicks - the 084 weighs 24 pounds fully fueled. But the design process started on those ~ 10 years later than the 1100 which is the base platform for the 2100. The 2100 is much more compact and maneuverable for the "flick-a-bility" aspect I talk about occasionally. So it's better for limbing and just getting around on steep ground or brushy ground, or both.
Timed runs as follows:
395XP @ 12,480 wot went 8.87 down at 9,840, 8.30 up at 9,420, and 8.40 up at 9720
2100CD @ 9,720 wot went 8.77 down at 9,120 and 9.34 up at 8,880
We will be viewing several more videos of saw-offs with this 2100 running against the “little brother 395”.
I’m currently available for custom saw modifications. Please shoot me an email if you are interested.

I found your video and your comments illuminating. I have 4 Husky 2100s, and although I have never run the newer saws, between my 056 Magnum II and the Husky, I also favour the Husky. The reason I found your video, was because I was searching for the trick to disable the governor on my saws. I did learn it at one time, and thought to myself, "I can remember that", so now lack of memory is another thing I am going to have to add to my list of imperfections. .

Yes still have two 2100's one running one not so much and two pristine 056 Mag II's. The mag were 97cc as 2100 were 99/100cc's. Had my 2100 built by sawking years ago in Myrtle Creek Oregon when I cut logs for a living, yes pulled the governor port...after that they turned 12 to 12.5....alway cut circles around the 056s. Yes a few videos ago the 500i you had on the table full of Stahls...I noticed that 2100 sitting back behind...I thought wow there a nice old 2100...alway my favorite go to saw...the old Orange Crush or Orange Lead Shed...heavy but my money maker day in and day out....thanks again Shoe in Grant's Pass.

Wish I had more of those old Husky's. We were running the Super Pro 81s and they came out with the 850. I bought a 2100 ( man that thing was heavy) and two weeks later a second one as a spare. The old 81s would stuff the rod through the oiler every so often so you best have a few of them on hand.

I’m glad I stumbled onto this channel. Best chainsaw review I’ve seen yet. Thanks for the history lessen, I didn’t buy my first Husky until 1986/87 it was a 266xp. Started my tree business in 1992. Run Husky’s for medium to large saws because of the superior vibration system and the decompression release, made them much easier to start when your up in a tree. Ran a 020T and 026 Stilhs. Always wanted a really nice 288, just love the looks of the saw.

The 395xp de rate occurred I believe in 2019. I e-mailed Husqvarna about it and they said the 7.1 hp to 6.6 hp drop was to “help with vibration”

Husky 550xp is lightweight, nimble and would work for >16, but might as well go with a 562xp since you could put a 24" or 28" bar on it and not bend over as much
@hotsaws101
@hotsaws101 3 жыл бұрын
Uni hi. I do think a 346xp would suit your needs also. The nice ones are getting a little hard to find though. The option of spooning on a 24 seems prudent. At that point, in stock form, you might be down on power. In the 60cc class, the 562 is hard to beat. If I was going to pack the weight of a 365xp around, the 372 would be my go-to choice there. A bit overkill for a 16"er, imho anyway. Thanks for watching.

Joe hi. Technical speaking, the CD stands for capacitor discharge. It is where the concept of solid state comes from. The capacitor style ignition system uses stored energy, not points connecting to complete the circuit "x" degrees before tdc. Thanks for watching.

@hotsaws101

Gentlemen hi. The rod is really long. That increases the dwell time, which helps greatly. In the '85 and earlier, thin ring versions (this saw) there was a lot less parasitic drag than the later thick ring fitment machines. The windows in the piston are very large allowing good flow from under the dome. Thinking it is a culmination of many of the inherent engine designs with this battle axe of a saw. Thanks for watching.

I have a 395XP with a ported muffler and she rips. I've seen these older 2100's and I'm intrigued. If you improve the muffler and coil situation, what saw do you think would be better? A mildly improved 2100 or a mildly improved 395?
@hotsaws101
@hotsaws101 Жыл бұрын
Stock for stock the 395 will best a 2100. It takes some work to get a 2100 to run just as good as a bone stock 395. If you do the same amount to both, the 395 is still going to run better. Thanks for watching.

If you run anything less than 36" you should use a smaller powerhead. You are lugging around a heavy saw for not really any gain. Ill run a 28" on a ported 372xp vs a 28" on 2100 all day long. The fatigue gets to you with a 2100 series saw. Don't get me wrong.. I own about 15 x 2100s and 2101s... They were made to cut with big bars...
