with the stock muffler indeed, which is just a heavy hot as hell piece of junk. Switch to another muffler and you will ditch 2.6kg, avoid heat problems and get a racy rally raid noise

I Rode my 701 from London UK to Cadiz Spain which is 1428 miles or 2298 kilometres which was mostly highway. I was dreading the idea of the trip but was plesently surprised. At 70mph or 120/130kph the bike was easy to ride and the wind exposure wasn't unbearable. Now this is far from the first bike I'd choose to for such a journey but it can be done and it does so much better than you would imagine. Fairing kits are available for the 701 if you are looking for more wind protection but I'd say as standard the air exposure is clean and you are exposed to very little buffeting. The engine is smooth and vibration was low due to the short stroke motor. My previous bike was a 2004 KTM 950 adventure. The motor on the 950 for me had more prominent vibration. As for fuel range, at 70mph or around 120 kph you will get 130 miles before the reserve light comes on I'd say about another 30/50 miles untill empty but I'm not sure as I didn't dare to chance it. Anyhow auxiliary fuel tanks can be purchased for the 701 which allow for extended range. For me this bike is an awesome machine and few will be disappointed. I'd say if most of your miles are done on the road and you are used to riding a machine such as the r1200gsa then the 701 will feel a little crude but that's the price you'll have to pay for a more off road biased machine. I love mine and look forward to many more miles on mine.

Great video, thanks for posting. I just got a 701 (2018) and 2 days later did 1500 mile trip half on road and half off road, and I LOVE THIS BIKE. I ran with big side gas tanks, a tusk pannier rack and mosko moto backcountry 35 panniers with backcountry 40 liter duffle as well as a seat concepts seat and man i can NOT stop riding this machine. I wanted a 690 just because the look of it but this came available to me and actually is better motor than same year ktm . So easy to manuever and you are right it will wheelie in any gear if you want. Awesome overland bike and so fun!

I own the same bike in different colors (ktm 690 enduro r 2018). I can confirm all of your words about this bike. It is the best dual-sport bike I ever ride. It slim and fast in city (4.3 - 4.5 sec to 100km/h but you need to switch gears fast and fight wheelies on every gear). I use it offroad every day. Ktm has more advanced dashboard and ABS can be switched on/off or switched on front only. I was surprised that husquarna has 74hp in stock (ktm has 67hp and can be increased by ktm dealer with acrapovic exhaust and software update but it cost about 1.5k - 2k euro)
@motorcycleadventures
@motorcycleadventures 6 жыл бұрын
Good to know that, thanks for adding Dmitriy!
@madzanov

Also I like to add: You can switch ignition maps by switch under the seat: 0 - bad fuel, 1 - soft mode, 2 - sport mode, 3 - standard. This affects on bike character. It is not 100% hard enduro bike like ktm exc or honda crf but 50-60° angle hill climbing or forest trails with small rocks and lumber is not a problem. I guess this bike very good in cross-country rally. Both bikes can be upgraded by aftermarket rally kits with safari tanks for better wind protection, powerfull lights and 30 liters of fuel capacity (additional tank can be connected with main tank and can be fueled from front fuel hole). And you will receive lightweight and powerfull advencher bike. "Because weight is always matter" (c) Comfort highway speed is 130 km/h (minimum vibrations and acceptable wind pressure without windshield)

foo bar , I ordered it in december 2017 it was assembled in 2018 and received in february 2018 here in Belarus (ktm.by). It still available for order on my dealer's website but I guess my ktm 690 enduro R is the last orange enduro R.

@maxpower1174
@maxpower1174 6 жыл бұрын
It's not the same bike in different colours dude, frame is not the same, the engine has twin counterbalances as opposed to the single one on the ktm. Husky has wp. Shocks and 25mm extra travel. Also the husky doesn't have the different fuel maps. A bunch of other differences as well. Similar bikes but not the same.

Thanks for this review, that I was waiting for...for me its the BEST bike (with the 690) for motorcycle adventures with some little modifications...A lots of guys out there are travelling around the world with these kind of bike without any issues.
@motorcycleadventures
@motorcycleadventures 6 жыл бұрын
I will agree, the bike is very good, bu the mods are not little and definitely not cheap. I haven't seen many of these bikes on the long trips. Without any issues...I think that you are wrong, but....
@gv4199
@gv4199 6 жыл бұрын
When I say without any issues means not more issue than any other bike and all issue can be fix like your tenere when travelling...if you ride constantly and don't race. This husky 701 or ktm 690 is considerate as a street bike in the KTM catalogue. These are not enduro bikes so the maintenance are similar to all those street bikes.The main mod is a big tank (safari tank or evo rally) takes you up to 26 liters by keeping the original tank that is placed behind under seat.. about more than 1000euros but can find for 500 second hand...confort seat like seat concept is 300 and small windshield 60euros( i have one and its ok on highway up to 120km) if you need more protection, theres a rally kit carena from albertodottori italy for 400 .. For luggage you can install a rack mounted on 4 bolts on the tank wich you cannot see on that husky 701 because its under the plastic tail. With this you can tie your luggages without hiding the tank reservoir hole...total is up to 1000-1500 or even 2000-2500 euros maximum if you change the exhaust for lighter one and small modification just like on any bike... hand grip heat..thermometer etc...with all this the weight is still about 180- 190kg fully loaded because all made of plastic or fiber glass( tank and carena). Ok total price is a little expensive i agree but with this kind of adventure bike, you will not want to stay on asphalt roads. Well, that's alot that i have to say but im not trying to convince you on anything...just sharing my point of view
@motorcycleadventures
@motorcycleadventures 6 жыл бұрын
I know about all of the mods, but as you said they are not cheap and not many people could afford it. Even if they have it it become one really expensive bike and real ability is still a problem. The spare parts also and you are not right, not every one could fix KTM engines. As I said it is one very good machine, I really like it, but for RTW I prefer simplicity, even that I need to sacrifice a lot of things, like power, suspension, fun factor, the most important is to ride, no matter what.

The 2019 KTM 690R has the same dash as this Husky (no rev counter etc and powered by a watch battery!). Why KTM would do this I have no idea when you look at the new TFT displays they have on their other models. On a plus side the 2019 690R has switchable ABS and traction control that also works at lean angles as well, so my money would be going on the KTM 690R given the choice. The downside is your paying £1000 extra for the bike in the UK for that extra tech; its worth it in my mind though.

I really enjoyed that 'illegal' ride, Pavlin 😉. At last a bike that is big enough (apart from the tank, perhaps). I do like big singles and would seriously consider riding long distances on one of these. Hej Pavel. The 701 is not just a 690 with a different colour scheme. Different frame and tank. In 2017 it got the newest engine from ktm with two balancing shafts. Different mapping and so on. I went to Northcap in Norway on my 701 enduro last year. In average I got 250km on the stock tank and at one time 300km. Nice review.if the bike I LOVE it. But you are right, it sucks for long stretches on the highway.

The engine is KTM 690, with small upgrades. The new 790 need to prove itself and so far is not going well in terms of reliability. The R model have a problem with stability, the S model is fine. 701 is very basic, almost like a dirt bike and if you want to use it for traveling you need to spend around 2000 euro before even start. Bigger tank, fairing, seat...

Coincidentaly I went to see this bike on thursday 10 may at the local dealer in my country. You made my weekend with this video review. It is really a great bike: powerful and light at the same time though a little bit tall to me. however I´m trying to figure it out a solution for this matter. I´m more inclined to light and single piston (dual sport) as an adventure bikes. Thanks a lot for the great review

Hi, i have a 2012 KTM 690, 27000 km now and no engine problems.I get close to 300 km out of one tank if you take it easy.I als had handlebar vibrations but bar end weights solved it completely.only problem is that it runs a bit rough below 3000 rpm but the new engines are muh better in this respect.

It depends on your acceptable comfort level. If you want to make honda goldwing from this is cheaper to buy goldwing. As for me: 55euro for windscreen + 150euro for ergo seat + 280euro luggage racks is enougth for touring. Or 1k euro for rally fairing kit with led lights instead of windscreen is more than enought

I am driving a nc 750 dct. It has 60 hp, and as automatic i can beat most at the traffic lights but on highways the tiny windscreen is not much help. It has 4 four luggage, one where the tank normally is, which is nice as i can leave my helmet there. It is a heavy bike, 230kg and i can not put it on center stand alone and as 170cm almost the max hight that i can handle. One the other hand there is no clutch to be serviced. Fuel is about 3.3 per 100 km and tank is 14 l. No vibrations, no hand guards. Good for city rides not so for autobahns, ok for 100km/h.

I think I'd go with a shorter supermoto with tubeless. Keep another set of dirt wheels for long week-end bikepacking.The nice thing about the smaller manufacturers when travelling is that they will tend to serve your model. The Japanese can have a range of models not sold in a particular country.

I rode in parallel with someone with a new carbureted 690 for 20k km with no probs.. He knew that at about 30k he might have to do engine maintenence. The 690 design has gone from durability to longevity, but should be durable for most.
