Good tips, thanks - but - my tent is 2kg, packs small and is roomy (for a 1 man) and 4 season. Just saying, a decent tent doesn't have to be heavy (might be pricey though). I cannot get my head around people who want to sleep with their bike with them in the tent 😅

I do travel with friends, but I also like travelling alone. The big difference is that leading the pack makes you exhausted as you need checking the map all the time, while lonely trip is the option when nobody cares if I maka a mistake ;)

I have been using the Mitas E07 and E07+ for the past 5 years now but never have used one of these Dakar versions. I am very happy with the E07 standard version so far and will continue to use them until i can find a tire that provides me with the same capabilities and longevity as the E07s. I had a friend that had installed the TKC80's on his bike and I loved the way the look and was about to give them a try. Luckily for me that I did not, as he said it was the worse tire that he have used. "Ok on the road, disappointed in the mud, useless in wet grass and for snow... I will retrieve my bike when the snow has melted" That was his words to describe them. I guess the Dakar version for been a hard compound tire, like many other tires out there that promotes longer longevity has a downside not to be good on wet and noisy You're right! I prefer less longevity and better handling. More prone to a puncture rather have one on the Dakar and not been able to remove the tube. That is why I will stick with the E07 and E07+. Thanks for the video!

We spent the better part of 6 months in South America in 22 and 23. It's great riding, so enjoy it. We'll get back there next autumn. As you say, we are also packing light always and for extended trips we don't camp anymore as it just too much weight and hassle when riding off-road. One sits on the bike all day and will be in another place next day anyway, so no one sees that you're wearing the same stuff. Have a great time in SA Pavlin!

Super useful honest review, very helpful, thank you ! One question - after having been happy with E 07+ (std), why would you want TKC80s? Thanks (I've run E07+ and loved them, now have a new Tuareg, it is fitted with Pirellis, as your T7 was)

I've just got home from a ride home from work in England and my hands are like blocks of ice. Couldn't clench a fist and contemplated pulling over multiple times because the pain was so unbearable and I couldn't feel my hands on the handlebars. Was miserable.

Yes great advice, I was debating getting a tent but I'd probably never use it, I like hard luggage that I can lock and keep stuff fairly safe inside so that's why I don't go for soft luggage. I carry way too much stuff though. have to get sensible! thanks Pavlin and good luck in South America, safe travels to you and enjoy!

I agree that throttle by wire is undesirable; it has no real mechanical feel to it whatsoever. Even on cars such as Toyota Yaris it is garbage, with crappy throttle response right off of idle, and then a sudden surge of acceleration. Technology, in this case, is running backwards , all in the name of saving fifty cents per unit. Toyota and Yamaha, you can keep it. The computer gaming world doesn't help us on motor vehicles.

Travelling light has always been my philosophy, i learned from years of cycle tours as a kid, when you have to pedal it around up hill and down dale. If i go away now, for say a week or two on either my motorbike or on holiday, and take anything i didn't use or could have left, it makes me rethink for next time, even if it's just a pair of socks or one extra t-shirt, and when i see the wife filling cases up like elton john on tour it pisses me off, coz i know it's me that's going to have to hump them around at some stage lol. thanks for the vid 😀

Well. Good advice. But if u say. It depends when and where u going. I planning my Northafricatrip in the Wintertime. Cause in Summer it is too hot and no need to go to Africa. U can go to Spain, Croatia, Albania and other parts of Europe in Summer. Witch makes sense. Means....... If i start just before x-mas, i need 3 or 4 month to do it for around 15k kilometers. I start in the cold(mid December) and i coming back in the cold(march). So makes sense to take the layer with u. And the Tent in my opinion is also nessasary, specially in the middle of nowhere and reduce ur costs. But taking as less weigth with u as u can is surely a good advice. But u dont have too minimalistic. If u r look on ur weight, it makes no big difference if u got 25 or 30kilos with u. Max 30kilos inclusive everything is the goal. Every gram more is too much!

Agree with your electronic aid comments in the video. Not sure how ride by wire throttles cope in difficult conditions for an extended period. Its not the most easy thing to fix even if you have the knowledge without spare parts.
@motorcycleadventures6 күн бұрын
Exactly!
@GibbAsp6 күн бұрын
Its all risk management, if you are on dirt or tarmac roads where people will pass a solution can usually be found. If you are in the middle of nowhere its better to be able to cover most common situations. We all know what these are and for sure you can never foresee every disaster that may happen. With hindsight most common show stoppers are with the rider after crashing and not the bike. Or perhaps that's just my skill level 😀

Put all that crap you don't use and practice packing it up them taking it off and on everyday. You'll figure it out if you have a brain. You won't use a third of it at the most. I have over fifty years actually 53 on the road. You need very little. Buy combination clothes not separate rain suits. Get all goretex with waterproof gloves and boots. A simple polartec windstopper liner or an electric jacket liner is all you need. If it gets much worse it will snow and you can't ride anyway. Wool clothes under layers, glove liners and socks. Dry them at night and wear them again. Just a few clothes is all you need. Carry a roll of toliet paper. Important stuff you need handi wipes. Toothpaste & brush, comb small bottle all purpose soap. Nobody gives a shit what you look like on the road. F they don't know you. You ain't know movie star you are a traveler. Some may take you in feed you give you a bed to sleep on. All good. many times. Be nice and friendly. Meet people with a smile and kind words of their language. You got an attitude leave it home and stay there the hell with it. You don't even need to go. Learn how to enjoy life.

OMG aint that the truth. I've seen bikers (usually riding a GS lol) with tons and tons of stuff piled on top of panniers, tank bags, the lot. The amount people carry seems to expand to fill the available capacity, i just couldnt do it myself. GL
