1976 at 16 I had a CR 250. It had to run Castor Oil mix, 20:1 I think. I was barely heavy enough to start it from cold. I was barely strong enough to actually hold on due to the serious amount of torque that it had. It relied on that as did not rev like the later versions. I will never forget it!

Dude, that's epic! My uncle has one of those (same year and everything) and it's beastly. I'm 18 and I'm hoping to get a 400cc+ bike for my 2010 season. My goal is a 400 or 440 Maico from 1976-1981 with '78 being the ideal target.

"The Husqvarna motorcycle division was sold to Italian motorcycle manufacturer Cagiva in 1987 and became part of MV Agusta Motor S.p.A. The motorcycles (widely known as a "Husky") are now produced in Varese." I don't know, but that's the history I pasted above. Yup, the older bike engines are a lot better than the newer ones!
@Paulstathis199215 жыл бұрын
love the oold 2 stroke sounds better and the body was so much more durable and didnt brake
@JETZcorp14 жыл бұрын
Actually, there's another way. If you're on a Maico, the transmission shifts so smoothly that you can shift without touching the clutch, and keeping the throttle open. You may want to give it a little twitch to make it easier, but a Maico in good condition is able to shift WFO. I've seen it done, and it makes the bike sound like it's got a CVT.

very nice vehicle very nice sound but driving with this t-shirt and such a short "boxershort" istn very nice. think about a crash....
@kblackav8or14 жыл бұрын
It's called speed shifting. 4 strokes won't do it particularly well and may tend to blow up on you. The way he is doing it is old school and they way many used to do it. It may wear out your clutch a little faster but heck it is a MX bike and in that era they expected you to buy a new one about every 2-3 years. The technology back then changed a lot faster then today.

@ssrider7 Its called full throttle shiftning and its very common in motocross competition racing. Just go out to your local track and listen....

when someone pins the throttle and doesn't let up while shifting is just called popping the clutch it get you better acceleration, but you will wear your clutch plate a little faster, not bad for the engine or tranmission

@CarsAndMotorcycles18 жыл бұрын
@Creyzooo14 жыл бұрын
dude there are 2 ways to shift WITH or WITHOUT clutch shifting without clutch means closing throttle shifting with clutch means going full thottle, and just slip the clutch using clutch and close throttle means loosing time ;)

@CarsAndMotorcycles13 жыл бұрын

im sure that bike can take being shifted that way, it takes more to smoke a clutch than people think. you have to worry about smoking a clutch in big trucks, not in 250 lb dirtbikes.

Motors were actually better back then than they are today, today they weakened the bikes in fact in the 90s they really weakened the bikes. The only "technology" that has gotten better is suspension, brakes, etc. but not the motors, they have gone backwards in fact they are using 4 jokes now!

wow maybe its means my bikes geard out and if i were to throttle it so quickly like in the video my front wheel would pop up. hmmm maybe its cause of the v force reeds and the fmf fatty, and the racing carb and the race fuel.
