To install tire chains on the TS354XD it TS348XD you will need to air down, suck the chains as tight as reasonably possible and then air back up.
I show the basics of this process.
Please like and subscribe if you feel that my content may help out others 😁
Chain set brand was "Rotary", part number is 5574. Tire and chain size is 23x10.5x12.
Last time I looked, this exact brand and part number sell on eBay for $56 shipped.

Big thanks Larry for your review of the TS 354XD. I purchased one last week with the G730 Fast Transmission. No need for locking-diff I need the speed. Replacing my 2003 Craftsmen DYT 4000 (made by Husq, Kohler Pro 25HP, Hydro Gear trans). With 860 hours on it the Craftsmen continues to be a dependable mower that has seen hard use beyond its design but the TS 354X should cut my mowing time down significantly while being better suited for zipping around my 5 acre property. For me the Husq-Kohler-Hydro Gear combination has more than met my needs and I was delighted to find another tractor identically equiped. Worth mention that I paid $3100 for the new Husqvarna, about $500 less than the K66 model with locking diff. Thanks again for your endorsement of the TS 354 !

Someone may have already said this but I take a small ratchet strap around the outside edge of the tread and crank it down. You can get as many links as you need then. Thanks for the very informative videos.

Iam going to buy this model as well I'll only be running chains in the winter with the cutting deck removed. So I won't have a issue with the chains hitting the deck. Thanks for the video.

Simply spread the chains on the ground and drive over them and hook them up. In about 5 minutes you're good to go. I've done this even on the snow covered ground!

Not exactly with this model of unit. The rear tires are about a half inch from the fabricated deck. So you need to air down the tire, you need to compress the empty tire with the chains and then air back up. Otherwise..... The chains and the deck are trying to do what Einstein said can not be done.... Occupy the same space at the same time 😉

@@LarryMusgrave There's about a chain link width between my tires and the mowing deck after the chains are installed. I keep the mowing deck attached when plowing snow for the extra weight, this helps the front wheels stay steerable. But I do secure the chute in the up position. If you leave the tires properly inflated you should be able to install the chains as I described since they clear the mowing deck while in use.

Gosh, I don't recall the branding. I got them at the Husqvarna dealer when I bought the machine, same with the chains. I bought from Butler Power Equipment, so you could always call them and ask them what they recommend. I didn't need to drill or modify the factory wheels, I just used the holes that were there.

Just a suggestion, 2 link chains are far superior to the 4 link chain plus it gives a smoother ride.. They generally will work better than any tire you can put on if traction is an issue and are much less expensive. In general, chains are a pita to put on and remove which is why I leave them on my tractor that pushes snow/dirt year round. That said, I'm curious why chains are being put on with the mower deck ? And then weights added as well ? Are you going to mow with the chains on ?

I have the same tractor. Got the chains from Amazon. I also have the same weights from a previous tractor. How did you know where to drill the holes?
@LarryMusgrave
@LarryMusgrave 4 жыл бұрын
Close is good enough. I just looked at the weights, held one up to the tire and stuck a bolt through and twisted it to scratch the wheel paint at the 2 areas... Then I just center punched and drilled. If the books are off a bit it doesn't matter at all. Your building a Nascar engine, your clamping plastic weights to a 5 mph wheel....

That's a Nice machine , I'm considering the 48 model , I don't need the 54 , I actually don't need a mower , I want the tractor . I have a 94 Craftsman with the Johnny Bucket on front and electric sleeve hitch actuator , and I want to put them on a newer tractor with diff lock , the Husky is the Best Price out there .My question is did you not like the Cub ?? I have looked at the XT2 and XT3 series , but the price with diff lock is higher .Please update the difference with the chains and weights .

@LarryMusgrave
@LarryMusgrave Жыл бұрын
The weights come with long bolts, washers and nuts that are passed through the holes in wheels, and through the holes in the weights. Jack up the rear axle, slide the weight into the wheel, insert the bolts and all and tighten a you work around the wheel by rotating the wheel that is in the air to give access.

I ask because you the new style rims that do not have the four sqaure holes, to the larger holes need more washers and do they line up?
@LarryMusgrave
@LarryMusgrave Жыл бұрын
@shanerproductions Wow, that was 4 years ago. My dealer sold them to me. I had to remove the wheels, but the holes were there. I didn't drill holes or modify anything. The only odd thing was the chains had to be so tight to clear the deck that I had to air down, pull the chains tight and then air up.

Larry, instead of chains, did you consider ag tires? My property is quite uneven and I’m in need of more traction. I read in my TS354 manual that chains will not work with deck installed. Yet, you made it work... since making this video, have you had any negative and/or positive experiences with having the chains installed? Do the weights really make that big of a difference? Also, have you removed your deck yet? If so, was it difficult and do you have any pointers? Thank you for this video.
@LarryMusgrave
@LarryMusgrave 5 жыл бұрын
The deck is pretty easy, the hardest part is fitting it out and back in! You have turn the front wheels to full lock and even then it's really tight. I did the weights by drilling the wheels since the wheels on mine are not drilled for the bolts, and with the increased wheel offset (depth) I had to run to Rural King and grab longer bolts to reach back to the wheel disc. The weights are because I do cut across my slope, my yard is a 3.5 acre rectangle, the long dimension is going across the slope. The weights do increase stability in steep side slopes. I've had nothing but great results from the chains. I removed the tires, aired them down completely so that I could pull the chains completely tight to the end of the adjustments, and then aired back up. My dealer instructed me to do this as it's the only way the chains will clear the deck. It works great and the traction gained is phenomenal. I had AG bar tires on my Cub Cadet XT3 GSX that I bought, hated and sold last year. They are definitely a major step up from the turf tread, but not equal to the chains. Chains only cause observable damage if you do break the tire loose and spin.... Then they clear to dirt immediately!

Hey Larry. I decided to get more aggressively treaded rear tires. I also put four gallons of windshield wiper fluid in each tire (I’m going to put three more gallons in each tire in about two weeks). The tires, with the extra weight in them, have made a very noticeable improvement on my traction. I’ll send you a picture of the tires via Facebook messenger...

@LarryMusgrave
@LarryMusgrave 2 жыл бұрын
Sort of. If you don't air down, tighten the chains and then air up... You'll not be able to put the deck back on and run it. The tire to deck clearance doesn't leave room for the chains natively. You have no choice but to air down, compress the chains into the tire and then air back up.

Man, you worked waaaaay too hard to install those chains. The drive over technique works but an even easier way is to jack up the rear, drape the chains over the top of the tire and hook them up. You can then turn the tire to access the attaching hooks. There is no need to air down the tires as the chains don’t need to be so tight for low speed use. If you want them tighter, just install rubber chain tensioners. Also, you should mention that the cross chain hooks should face away from the tire.
@LarryMusgrave
@LarryMusgrave 5 жыл бұрын
The chains do not fit between the deck and tires. This tractor is proclaimed by Husqvarna to not be possible to put chains on. Your method works fine on a tractor with room for chains. My method works when you have to crush the chains into the tire.

@@sealevel1919 -You definitely need to add some reinforcement to the rear hitch area. I sandwiched the rear vertical panel between a piece of flat stock on the inside, and a piece of 3.5" angle iron on the outside, and mounted a 17/8" ball to the angle iron. I made a couple of slits cross-ways in the angle iron and bent the area around the ball downward to get a good angle on the ball, and the welded the slits together. The thing is as solid as can be on my TS348.
