I am looking at getting this one as my first machine! I am looking between the Janome HD3000 or this rand leaning toward this one. Do you have any experience or opinion on which you think is better?

I bought one of these a year ago and I’ve had nothing but problems. The cotton gets stuck around the part on the top next to the thread guide for bobbin. I’ve take it back and had it looked at by the shop I purchased it from, it worked for a while but it keeps doing it. The cotton just jams

It jams in the tread guide. Doesn’t matter what thread I use or how slow/ fast I go, it keeps doing it.

@@lazydaisybookart474 sorry to read that. I’ve had 7 of these machines for 10 years now and they’re in daily use during my classes. I’ve never experienced that problem, nor have any of the dozens of students who’ve bought one for themselves reported that problem to me. Have you checked you’re threading it correctly? And make sure you’re using good quality thread. You mention cotton but if it’s old cotton thread or has been stored incorrectly, it will become brittle, shred and break easily. The other issue is that many cotton reels have slits in them to keep the thread from unravelling so ensure the thread isn’t catching in the slit and there aren’t any rough areas on the edges of the reel.

I have heard this is a very good sewing machine. Please tell me how much this machine costs? Also do you know the cost of the 116?
@artisanstitch2 жыл бұрын
Hi Kaz. Thanks for your comment. Yes it’s a very good machine. Versatile, robust and easy to use. I believe they are currently £399 RRP in the UK. The 116 is £30 cheaper but lacks the speed control, the needle up/down feature, and more importantly, the electronic foot pedal which is what makes the 118 so smooth, responsive and controllable. If you’re in the UK and are interested in buying one, then Pembertons are still doing the offer of £80 of extra goodies, as mentioned in my blog. I don’t receive any commission; just the satisfaction of knowing that you are loving your Emerald 118. 😍

@@artisanstitch thank you for the quick reply. I think i'm going to push for the 118 for the extra functions, up, down needle and speed control. I also like that it can handle thick fabrics such as denim. Thanks 😊

@@kazkazzie3906 yes it’s definitely worth the extra £30.

Would you say it was a noisy machine.

Not at all. There are many others that are far noisier.

I don't understand why this sewing machine is so expensive. It's almost the same price as a juki industrial sewing machine.

I don't know why you think this is expensive. What are you comparing it with? This is a high quality machine with a large range of features suitable for home or professional use. It is not a cheap plastic starter machine. If you try to obtain an equivalent domestic machine from Janome or Brother, you'd pay at least an extra £80-£100.

@@artisanstitch I am comparing it to a juki dl8100 e which is available for a little bit extra.

@@michaelsrowland thanks for your reply. The Emerald 118 is possibly as robust and powerful as an industrial. However you need to compare like with like.
