First impressions, I will be going more into the individual tools as time goes by.

I just found your channel while researching for a new splitting axe. I was starting to lean towards a husqvarna and now I’m quite sure this is the tool for me. Thank you for the informative video. Looks like I have some catching up to do with views on your channel.

Completely agree the 36" handle gives you more swing for a big man. I'm 6'3" and 260+ lbs a 36" feels right for me.

Total respect to a man talking from experience.... I love the Husqvarna axes, the feel ,the look but slightly ambivalent about their effectiveness.... works of art nevertheless!

great looking tools collins makes a maul the same design as the bigger husky maul. I did go to a fiberglass handle in the mauls I hated to but good quality wood handles were getting hard to find. That old sugar maple really gives them a test. I also cheat and us the chain saw some to split

Axes were as common as pocket knives , every man had at least one either with him or in his gear. Today very few woodsman carry axes or pocket knives, shame to.

nice looking axes, my Fiskar has a 42 inch handle and is guaranteed for life is light as a feather and gets the job done, I like the feel of wood and was skeptical about a composite handle, but it works well. I like the look of that boys ax I bet it works well for limbing, I have an old ax i picked up at a flea market that sat in an old barn for so many years that it has a severe bend in the handle, also has a dark color like pine tar, I love reaching for it, love the videos thanks for sharing

I have a Small Forest Axe. It was advertised as a delimbing axe for use around their chainsaw. That is until people figured out that it was nearly identical to the Hulafors Bruks Wetterlings and Gransfors Bruks axes selling for 3 and 4 times the price.

Agreed! If someone makes a 33"-36" replacement handle then its good to go. But...I haven't found it yet

Like the looks of the light spitting axe, might fill the gap between my maul and other smaller axes :)
@logcabinlooms8 жыл бұрын
Gungeek it does fill a gap. I normally split the rounds on the ground, where the heavy, long handled maul is perfect. But for the shorter rounds for use in the cook stove I split into slabs on a block where the shorter handled splitting axe works, then use the smallest maul one handed to knock the slabs into sticks that will fit the cook stove. Each tool does have a use, it's a sort of system that's works fairly well.

Great review, I was hoping you would address the axe sticking in wood. I may have to purchase the maul, I don't split much wood but when I do I don't want it to take longer than it has too.

Great video once again, thanks for doing these. One question I have on the length of handles, is the length partly due to a person height, in other words you being so tall, would the requirement be different for a shorter person?

I use a Swiss miners axe to split stove wood. Heavy head and a short handle.

i have the 30” splitting Axe. it’s worked well for some light wood splitting but it’s beginning to dull a bit. i use a file and lansky pick to sharpen but i’m not satisfied with the results. any tips? thanks

I have a fiskars hatchet, made in Finland. I agree wood is more traditional and probably feels better, these plastic axes have there place. Similar to glocks. All function, not very aesthetically pleasing. Non replaceable handle, but good luck braking it. Even if you do it has a lifetime warranty. It's a little hatchet that I can knock around. If it rusts, It rusts. Rust usually comes off after a days work anyway.

I suppose a man could replace the 19 inch handle with a longer handle, maybe something like a 22 inch straight handle. Even though the head is kind of light, you would get that additional swing distance.

What kind of tape do you use for the handle

Tony Perla there will be, I have some things I need to work on, but what I upload is just whatever I am up to at the moment, and that is dictated by the weather more than anything.
