I've owned both. It is so subjective, but after owning about every boutique acoustic on the market I ended up with a Collings D1AT and and Huss and Dalton TDR. I compared so many mahogany and rosewood guitars, respecitively, and these were the two I decided to keep. Both guitar makers are amazing, and I'm so grateful for both of them!

what is it about those two that appealed to you?

I have a Collings D2HA I purchased at Artisan. I went to Nashville looking to buy a Huss & Dalton but couldn't find the one that fit my ear. The particular Collings I bought did. But between these 2 samples I love the Huss over the Collings too. Thanks for posting.

Has to be the Huss and Dalton for me as well. The tone is so impressive.

You couldn’t go wrong with either but if I had to pick it would be the Huss and Dalton.

The Collings has the tone for me. The brightness and depth. If I only had these two guitars, I wouldn't want anymore! The H&D is incredible also. It would be awesome to compare the string action. Thanks for the video! Very nice chord playing and choice

Two of the nicest sounding guitars I've ever heard. Choosing between them would be the devil's own job!

I just wanted to express my "opinion"; both guitars are beautiful in appearance, and both guitars sound beautiful on my cell phone coupled with the headphones I'm using. That being said, although I would be ecstatic to own either, to my 62 year old but musically educated ears, the Huss and Dalton sounds slightly brighter, snd thus slightly preferable to my ears. However, I would love to hear comparisons between two similar Rosewood guitars, because that is my favorite sounding tonewood. I still, even after hearing these two delicious sounding instruments, would choose my Guild D-50 Standard, simply because of tge tone provided via the Rosewood and Bear claw Spruce sound box. Just my humble 62 year opinion folks, so don't crucify me!🙏💙😇✌🏼🤘🏼🤠😎

I was listening to the guild d55 today, it's amazing and truthfully I agree with you. I have a Collings OM2HT, have played a Thompson dread with an adi top and it's fabulous. Hard to be the Guild...very hard...

To my ears, a little more projection from the Huss and Dalton, and a little more depth from the Collings. I guess I'll buck the trend and cast a vote for the Collings. I surely would love to have one of each, though, and do an in-depth longitudinal study on them - maybe 20 years or so. I'll get back to you with the results when I'm done.

I live in Texas and have always wanted to have an Austin Tx made Collings. But both of these guitars sounded wonderful.

Both sound great, HD sounds a little more open. I have a D1AT and once it warmed up after a few months it really is unequaled in my herd.

Played one H&D (sitka / rosewood combination) and loved it. Currently have a Collings D1T that is sublime (love sitka).

I feel like the Huss and Dalton projects more. You hear more of the inside of the body of the Collings

What an amazing video comparison. Loved your approach, touch and superb playing that showcased the guitars. Just when I thought nothing is gonna beat that Huss & Dalton TD-M (it sounded perfect to my ears) ....the Collings steps up and delivers a slightly different flavor of Great great tone. I would have to feel and hear them in person from the player side of the sound hole to see if there was a clear winner. This video shows there is NO dog in this race. I call it a dead heat. Whichever guitar you prefer and choose is a great great choice!

They both sound like absolute dreams in their own way, H&D with it's booming resonance, and Collings with it's refined articulation. I want both.

When you get to this level of build, quality and price, there is no 'better.' Only personal preference. I couldn't afford either and settled for a used OM1AV. 99% of the sound, half the price.

Two top notch boxes of wood. No doubt. I'll stick to my Collings 002H. But would like to have them all.

I've own guitars from both builders and I love my Collings guitars but I always said I never played a bad Collings which is still true, I do not care for their traditional series at all, I've had 2, a D2HT and a CJ45T, did not care for the necks and my other Collings that I have will chase them out of town, just my opinion but I've probably had 12 or more Collings, that being said I like the sound of the Huss and Dalton

I've only heard a couple H&D's live in front of me and, to be honest, was underwhelmed for the price. This one did, however, sound great though a little muddled when hit hard. Very nice tone and looked incredible. I got to play an original D1A when they were first hitting the dealers. It blew me away. I am not a great player and was lucky that day when a great player came into the shop I was visiting and played the guitar. Blew me away again. The D1A-T in this video reminded me a lot of that guitar and, for me, hit home. For a mahogany dread, this is the one that always sounds awesome. Cleaner and cuts through perfectly. It is subjective, I know. But the Collings wins for me.

Depends if you want to cut through. Not everyone is a bluegrass player
@richardminer18632 ай бұрын
The Collins sounds a bit more modern, the H&D more vintage. Both sound great, either will work depending on what your playing and looking for. That said, the Huss has the tone I am looking for in that type of guitar for the music I play, though I can see the Collins might be more versatile? I guess I need both LOL!

Obviously, you need both. H&D seems like a great vocal accompaniment; Collings a little more jazzy and leady.

Intresting how the Colligs uses a Sitka bracing with an Adi top...not an Adi top/Adi bracing...sound quality...like them both...for a better impression we'd have to play them...
@el34glo59 Жыл бұрын
That's what Martin did prewar too. Sitka bracing, Addy top. I wish they would do that now. It's odd they don't on authentics. Any other pre war copy from a small builder, uses Sitka bracing to be period correct

H&D has the more natural sound to me and at that price that’s what I’m looking for.

🔵 love mahogany as a tonewood ❕ 💙 Adi is usually overrated ; dreads are the only body shape I won't buy ~ 'cause a guitar (body) should feel like holdin' a woman in ur arms , not a battleship 😣 😫 the H&D sounds better in this comparison ; I've owned several builds from both builders and they're pretty much on equal par with one another ❕😊
