Thank you for posting. There was grass between the handles and the outer side of the handle box. Needed a long screw driver to clean it out as could not really see it. Then wiped down area with safety switches on both sides of handle assembly inside the mower. Then opened and closed handles several times. Worked like a charm. Grateful to God for all of you that post how to fix these problems.Thank you for doing the good Lords work.

Just discovered that when the mowers come from manufacturer country of origin hustler in the USA adds all the starting relays.. the schematics in the manual don't really apply after all the other relays and what not is put on in the USA

I expect this mower will last several seasons with decent care. kzbin.infoUgkx1VWTrayKBdCKAjzAcZ_Eg4dhHTae3LkN also recommend Also, I ran across the problem with it not starting the 2nd time I used it. There is a safety switch which is pushed in by the chute or mulching piece being attached to the deck. I took the cover off and it wouldn't start. Put it back on, no problem. It takes only a minute with 2 easily accessible wingnuts and no tools. This mower starts up first crank each time and it is a joy to use. It also mows in reverse by putting the key to the reverse area after starting and pushing in the triangular button. It will stay in reverse mode until you turn it off. All in all, for my homeowner needs, I really like this mower-and at 70 bucks a cut here in Miami, it's already more than 1/3 paid for itself in a month.

Mine would throw the belt their update was putting about a 1/4" plate on top of the deck under the pulleys so there wasn't a big space for the belt to get caught haven't had a belt come off since

I've had the same problem with the micro switches. Also, there's no way my seat will tilt all the way forward like yours does. The seat safety switch cable doesn't have enough slack in it the way yours does. I've also just thrown a deck belt off the electric clutch. It's a 2019 model 48" flip up.

Once those issues were fixed are you happy overall with the lawn mower
@cmart0097 жыл бұрын
For the most part, yes. I believe the biggest concern I still have with these machines is the pin to flip the deck, but otherwise they do fine. Most people find that they ride pretty well for their price range, and the deck leaves a nice cut. The kohler auto choke engines also haven't given us any major issues in the year and a half that they've been in use, so that's a plus as well.

cmart009 Thanks for your quick reply cmart. I'm thinking about purchasing one of these. My lawn tractor service man has recommended I get a larger unit. He's had to service my Troy-Bilt, 7 speed, 42 inch deck unit a few times, in addition to regular maintenance, in the last four years. I have 2 acres. He says my mower might be working too hard. He and a friend have recommended Hustler. Hope to see your update video. Thanks again.
@cmart0097 жыл бұрын
Not a problem at all. If you're looking for a bigger mower though, you might try the Raptor line or Raptor Limited line. They come in 42", 52", and 60" decks for cheaper than the flip-ups. If you're worried about changing blades or doing work under the deck, they're still light enough to lift the front pretty easily with 1-2 people, and then set on some ramps or other stand.

It's been 9 months since you've posted this review. Thanks. Has Hustler addressed these issues during manufacturing these? Or, are buyers needing to address these issues with the dealers when purchasing them. Again, thanks for the vid.
@cmart0097 жыл бұрын
I appreciate you asking! I was going to do another update video on these units next month, but now is as good a time as any. "Has Hustler addressed these issues during manufacturing these?" Short answer: Yes. Long answer: No. Production of these units has been halted since the tail end of last year. Currently, Hustler has hundreds, if not thousands of these units (48" and 54") sitting in their warehouse awaiting delivery on a per-order basis. All the dealers that I know of are still trying to sell these units, but are finally getting down to the last few in their inventory. At the start of this spring, Hustler distributed a long list of warranty fixes and corrections to the Raptor Flip-up line of mowers to dealers. Any dealer who sells these flip-up decks should be going through every unit, whether they've already been sold or not. Typically, we would call those who purchased one of these mowers and tell them of the issues, bring it in, and fix them. New units out of crates should be fixed immediately upon unpacking, before they go to their new owners. I say 'should be', because we've had varying results with people bringing in their flip-up decks from other dealers, only to see that the unit hasn't undergone some, or any fixes whatsoever. So, 'Yes', Hustler has addressed the issues during manufacturing by leaving the fixes to the dealers...IF they get around to fixing them. But, also 'No", because they're leaving it up to the dealers to fix the issues instead of Hustler themselves. When an order is made for a new flip-up to be sold somewhere, Hustler sends out the unit in the crate as it is...back from the end of 2015/start of 2016, without any updates whatsoever. It lies in the dealers to go through and make sure the units are fit for consumer use. "Or, are buyers needing to address these issues with the dealers when purchasing them?" Personally, I would ask the dealer if the updates and warranty work have already been done to the unit, just to be sure. An easy way to make sure is to have them show you how to flip the deck; If they have issues re-latching the deck, or the pin doesn't line up correctly/doesn't slide in easily, then they haven't correctly addressed the issues. Most dealers that sell Hustler zero turns should have at least one technician on hand that is very familiar with these flip-up units. After working with their issues for over a year and a half...well, you get to know them very intimately. All in all though, these mowers do a very nice job. When everything is functioning as it should, it's a fun little machine!

If you were going to purchase a new one, is there a manufacturing date (or date of production) when these issues have been resolved? (i.e., mowers manufactured after Sept. 2016 have been redesigned to correct, or address, the problems you've outlined).
@cmart0097 жыл бұрын
Short answer: No, they haven't manufactured any flip-up decks with the current fixes. That all falls on the dealer selling them. The "2017" flip-up decks you see for sale at dealerships are 2016 models with all the updates installed (hopefully). Any other model besides the flip-up decks have had their fixes installed on the units prior to shipping them from Hustler. The flip-up decks you see being sold this year are still from 2016; Hustler stopped manufacturing them after the swarm of warranty issues from last fall (2016). Any time someone orders a new flip-up unit, Hustler pulls from their own stock in Hesston, Kansas.
@starnet367 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the reply; 2 questions: 1.) Is your comment implying that Hustler has discontinued making the flip-up model due to the issues you mentioned? If not, would it be wise to wait until Hustler begins producing the flip-up after addressing the issues; and when might that be? 2.) If you perform the repairs as stated in your message are you saying that will take care of the problems and essentially the mower will work fine?
@cmart0097 жыл бұрын
1. Yes, they halted production of the flip-up models late last year. Production started in late 2014. I don't see them producing more until their current stock runs out at their warehouse. 2. Absolutely. Hustler issued a warranty packet this past spring detailing all the fixes for the flip-up decks. It was issues to all dealers who sell Hustler zero turns. The dealerships should be applying all fixes to any units that come in/get sold.

Yes,🌼 allabout.wiki/Hustler the bag fills up pretty quickly when there are lots of leaves and I guess that is expected. It is quick to take the leaf catching bag off and put it back on. There is one bar with rubber ends that fits into a slot (bottom), one bar with angled ends that hangs on rubber hooks (top), and two stretchy loops that each hang on a rubber hook (one each side). You can hold the leaf catching bag with one hand full and not drop any leaves. It is NOT easy to empty it into a lawn bag without spilling. My trick: I put two lawn bags side-by-side in a large garbage bin and emptied the leaf catching bag into them. What spills falls into the garbage bin. 90% of the leaves end up in the bags this way with 0% back on the lawn.
