I remember in the 90s when we used to smash pumpkins. We discovered pumpkin sliding. Basically if you take a large pumpkin and smash it and you have a big enough piece to stand on, you stand on the skin rather run and jump on the skin with inside against the ground if you are on the street you will slide. Like a giant banana peel. Works great on hills. Anyhow I remember people driving by from the bottom of the hill seeing us sliding down the hill (kinda like Gummby, damn it) they would come around and say "is that a hoverboard" and we are all like no silly... we are pumpkin sliding of course hoverboards are not real. I always knew since then they would never exist. But pumpkin sliding will always remain the most underrated activity in modern times bar none. Actually you could have done this 1,000 years ago on a nice slab of marble. And no, I didn't forget about Pokey.

This was fun. It also anticipates what come about eventually. Already there are precursors to actual working hoverboards which have their problems but with better technology, it will come about. Of course the physics of how real boards would work and the techniques to use them would be a bit different from the fictional depictions. People can make boards that float now but the issues are power, stability, safety and limited flight time or being limited to a specific surface to hover over as in magnetic boards.

@WhitentonMike10 жыл бұрын
Zade TakeTwo I see total regard for the laws of physics particularly those of being suspended by a harness from above. Just needed to bring that to people's attention. Of course most of us know this isn't real. If it were real, the board would be supporting their weight by reacting to their center of mass to push them back in balance and in the desired direction. More akin to the way a Segway tries to apply force to the rider by leading and trailing their center of mass. Also when you go up your legs would feel greater force bending them more, not less 2:35. Oopsy. The reverse is true when going down.

They ruined the illusion by making the board fly WAY too high. if they had kept it closer to the ground, it might have fooled more people. If something is built on the premise of "hovering" it has to have a surface to hover on, and making it fly so high like that makes it implausible, because it would lose control the farther it travels form the surface. -Which is the whole reason a hover board can't work, the inconsistency of the surface you would use it on.

How are people finding this now, without seeing the dozens of videos talking about how fake this was on the sidebar? BTW - The reason they got Christopher Lloyd, Tony Hawk, Moby, etc. is because people believe anything they hear if someone famous tells it to them.

Mister Fuzzez Look at the Lexus hoverboard vid, it's basically a similar idea where there are areas with and artificially produced magnetic field, also click the description and it shows you, hoped this helped

When this came out I remember begging my parents to get it. We got it but on the website it had a stop watch. later the stop watch stopped and they revealed it was fake. That was a weird moment lol

The funniest is Terrell Owens' shirt. When he's talking, his shirt fits nicely, then the next shot when he's on the board, his shirt is suddenly all out of wack.

"What began as a summer project in 2010 at the MIT Physics Graduate Program has evolved into one of the most exciting independent products to be developed out of MIT since the high-powered lithium-ion batteries developed by Yet-Ming Chiang in 2001. Our team consists of materials science, electricity & magnetism experts who've solved an important part of one of science's mysteries: the key to antigravity. The HUVr Board team ultimately aims to improve the efficiency, speed and sustainability of mass transportation. Yet rather than spend several more years closed off from the world while investing in research and development, the team and our world-class investors have worked to change the economics R&D by marketing this exciting consumer product in order to fund ongoing R&D. " This tells the team that created this project. Let's think better.

Actually, they COULD make real hoverboards, however they would have to be limited to a special arena. It's called magnetic levitation or "mag-lev". Powerful magnets under the floor/ground repel the magnets in the board. Cover a big enough area and the board has nowhere to go but up. It would probably be a lot harder to balance than shown in the video though. You'd either need a much wider board with magnets at the corners, or a really powerful gyroscope system to keep it stable.

The future of mass transportation. Unfortunately, it doesn't fit in with our current oil based civilization, and those that control us would never allow it.

Obviously fake, some sort of marketing campaign. But they really shouldn't be playing with people's feelings like that, I've wanted a hover board all my life :-(
