I totally agree with you. According to a biography I read, he used various substances to stay awake, so that he could turn out the vast plethora f work that he achieved. So, it seems that his early death might be in part *because* of his burning need to tell the tales he desired to tell.

Listening a second time, confirmed my first impression that it is sad, complex and really touches the emotions. Writer did turn out a lot of tales, although I was unaware of his name until today! The twists and turns of the plot brings to mind some of Mr Carr's original works!

That's very interesting to know that you were not previously familiar with Philip K. Dick. You will definitely know the films that are inspired by his work like Blade Runner, Total Recall and Minority Report.

@@TheBlackDogChronicles Indeed I am familiar with them but sometimes names of authors just escape me. Same happens with music...familiar with songs but no idea of the singer or group. When I really adore the music then I get to know and develop strong attachment...I am thinking of Pavarotti, Ray Charles, Rod Stewart, Bob Marley and on and on. Dead though most of them may be, I still carry an adolescent's crush 😍 for those unforgettable guys.

OK, I woke up listening to the climax of the story.. Scary is about the right word in this case. "it does exactly what it says on the label" as we used to say in the UK

He was a very clever chappie, the old Dick. This of course is demonstrated in how many of the best science-fiction films were drawn from his short stories. I could easily fill up this channel with his work, and one would hardly come across a story of his that was like another. I am envious his writing skill. Yet unlike him, I don't use drugs to meet my writing deadlines! All in all though, I am very glad you enjoyed it. Since when I first began the channel I have been looking forward to presenting this story. The sound engineer who did the soundscape on this one did an excellent job - in my humble opinion.

Merry Christmas, Black Dog. Do you think you could do something similar to Brian Aldiss's "The Worm That Flies"? Another classic golden age novella.

I will look into seeing how much it is to get permission. If it is within an affordable range, I will certainly give it a go. I really like Brian Aldiss, so I would very much like to do some of his work.

The amount of paranoia generated in such wars as PKD envisioned is perfectly matched by his pen. To think that people are being replaced is the ultimate step. And Asimov (the Jew) dared to criticize him for taking drugs. We wouldn't have Blade Runner, or Total Recall, A Scanner Darkly, Minority Report and many more.

I strongly agree that PKD was a rare creator, giving us a host of unforgettable tales. Buuuut...I do love Asimov too! Heehee.

Another great reading, you and Brendan are too good to be missed. I've got a request. Just like a woman, I've been recently subscribed and I'm already asking favors 😁. Bob Leman, Window, 1980. What do you say? This story reminded me of it; the same hoping for a good outcome, same sense of something not being quite right, and a similar dreadful ending. I do hope you'll agree that it's worthy of your talent. Thank you again. My mind is blown with how good you are. May Grace send many more listeners your way.🕊️🌟🕊️🌟🕊️🌟🕊️

I am very thankful for people who are kind enough to let me know what stories they would enjoy. If that story is in the public domain, I will happily add it to the list to be produced. If not; I am looking into a request system on Patreon or other such applications, so we may well be able to find a way to achieve getting this story to you. :) If I might point you in the direction of my playlist of stories I have written myself, as I would love to have your thoughts on what you think of them.

Always found this such a sad story - puts me in mind of someone with dementia. Is there anything worse than you not being you and not knowing? And then the horrible few seconds of lucidity realising what is happening before you are lost again. An odd way of looking at the story,, but there you go...
