Blackfire has Lost Chapter as a component so it helps lane phas with mana, likely why some mages build it first over Liandries right now. I'd be surprised if it actually did more damage than Liandries, but then again I didn't do any math for it. XD

It can literally never deal more damage than Liandry's Anguish unless you're Veigar, technically. It requires too many things to go correct (5-Man Damage, at an Objective, Enemy Team building no Resistances and having little HP) for the item not to get outscaled. It's like the Kraken Slayer vs. BoRTK debate. Post-True Damage Kraken almost always does more damage over time, since the current HP scaling gets cut faster than the KS Proc.

Blackfire Torch its better for mana in lanes and the burn +AP in jgl. Going it first makes you a bit squishy but it is worth going first.
