Walter, do flat rate for residential customers. Mark up your parts at least 30 percent. Do time and materials on commercial work. Telling you things you already know. Thumbs up to you.

Hey been in business for 20 years in the hvac industry. And when you are doing residential service work you are better off getting your payment that day. After service is performed. Commercial service calls you may have to bill the service call. But yeah residential collection the day of service is key.

God is good ! As a veteran, aircraft mechanic, pilot, and young professional, I'm leaping into HVAC and becoming a technician. My goal is to obtain my contract license and help others in the field. Keep up the motivation! #HTOWN South West Houston!

What's stopping you from going out on your own now? In regards to pricing, you have to price a job high enough that if and when you hire someone you can pay that person, cover overhead expenses and still make a profit. Once you have the technical skills, focus on your marketing and strategies on how you will get your customers. Door hangers is not enough. I would suggest a quality website or lead service other than just passing out flyers. You want the business to find and come to you without you spending your time chasing it. Good luck!

can you give examples cause a service based business mainly runs word of mouth, without marketing materials you die before you start. Which is no customers. Cause if nobody knows you exist, you paddle down a river with no water.

@@adeptheatingair Don't understand your comment. You said a service business mainly runs word of mouth? I don't agree that it should Businesses die mainly because of lack of money and there's lack of money because the owners don't want to, or don't know how to, do marketing.

Walter, you may need to find a brand and sell it. Lennox was pretty good about this 13 years ago. They were good about financing. Call up some salesmen at the local supply houses and see what they have to say. Not trying to rub it in, but the Rockets got thumped tonight.

Do not bill customers. If their unit is fixed when you leave, they pay. You'll get behind and lose money.
