The suction filter drier was restricted. When the temp got down to the negative, it would stop flow to the compressor and it would overheat.

I think suction line will get hot once the comp shuts off, it could be that the comp is intermittently not pumping properly. Like you said bad valves but im not sure if that could also cause the unit to go oof on overload. Thanks for the video keep us posted

Yikes 7-Eleven is a crapshoot. Last company i worked for has them as a customer, they'll call you out to fix things that you're not supposed to, tire pumps, car washers, etc lol. Over here it turns into a mad house for refrigeration and hvac, split systems placed in the worst places, and unmarked refrigeration systems. I sorta miss working on them, but I also don't. Great video bro

When i had that problem, it was because the the LP switch didn't work and there for the compressor never stopped and tripped on internal overload.. So my bet is valve plate or LP switch.
@ryanhartnett1354 жыл бұрын
Was think the same thing. She gonna overload when she satisfies and tries to pump down
@Thermoelectric74 жыл бұрын
This wouldn't let the case get up to 70f though? Unit calls for cooling, solenoid opens. Compressor is off on overload, but once it cools off she starts fine and gets cooled from the suction gas as usual. It'd only take what, half an hour for a compressor to cool, and maybe an hour or two for the product to get up to 70f. Seems like if it wasn't shutting off on LP the compressor would still cool down quick enough to keep the case cool, maybe not frozen but cool.
@Thermoelectric74 жыл бұрын
That's a tough one. My money would be on a bad contactor. Unit calls for cooling, contactor pulls in on two legs out of three, compressor sits there and cycles on overload. Unit never satisfies to cycle the contactor so it sits there and the case warms up. You come and turn it off, contactor drops out and when you re-energize it pulls back in properly. Alternatively a bad connection on the compressor feed causing it to lose a phase. Nothing else makes sense, headmaster being derpy would trip high pressure, intermittent mechanical fault would trip the breaker, not shutting off on low pressure would eventually trip the overload but it'd cycle enough to keep the case cool. Contactor was pulled in when you got there so the evap was calling. Potentially try checking voltage out of the contactor before you cycle power to units? Would help catch an intermittent contactor.

LOOK at compressor's electrical connector terminals. Wiggle test em!
@Thermoelectric74 жыл бұрын
Actually this doesn't make sense either, you'd trip the breaker if the compressor was down a phase. Weird.

The box continues to warm due to door heaters, which also makes the refrigerant lines warm and sometimes hot to the touch on the roof. I've seen these boxes get above 80 degrees if they have been down for a day or two before the customer calls it in. Everything inside that box creates heat, fans, light, and door heaters. All that heat is absorbed by the copper lines. I think final diagnosis is bad/weak contactor or low pressure switch. Wouldn't put too much into the lines being warm. Unless they were extremely hot to where you couldn't touch them.

I've had those compressor discharge stats be kinda funky they start getting high resistance, sometimes it runs fine then suddenly have enough voltage drop to chatter the heck out of the contactor🤷♂️ I just got in the habbit of ohming them out every time and keep spares.
@throttlebottle59064 жыл бұрын
headmaster bad sticking in bypass? until off on high pressure/short cycling until thermal overload? how's that for a wild guess :) I just happened to see the thing down there in background lol

If that suction was leaking it was sucking non-condensable there’s prob moisture in the system enough to stall the compressor? IDK just throwing things out there. It was pulling normal amps I think he said.
@workinprogress0084 жыл бұрын
It might be sucking but the line pressure relative to atmospheric wouldn't allow any air in
