Walter, I had to comment on this one. In my opinion the person that put that oversized Cap on the ODFM was trying to kill the motor. The discharge rate of the cap was going to be above the expected voltage thus driving the motor windings to a point that current would surely overcome the windings insulation. Effectively killing the ODFM. The fact that they didn't bother to remove their boxes or conceal the issue any further was blatant disrespect of the customer, and a confidence he'd return to them. On the other hand , well, I wouldn't even blame stupidity. I'd chalk it up to customer disregard. Glad you got the call and maybe the manager will place the unit in better hands. I think he'll be impressed on your service delivery and reporting.

Granted All American kept the evaporator clean however, inside and around the blower wheel they hadn't touched it with any clean of any kind. Its full of likely kitchen oils and muck and not moving CFM's like it should be. Another thing I noticed was the power wires around the compressor are touching the copper lines and will short out or wear a hole in the copper line. Crazy how things tend to get all messed up with the "Rudy" of the HVAC industry. WW HVAC spent some time on the unit that it well deserved and got some good cold air going for the man.

I have put larger caps on fan motors when you have low voltage like 208 and you Can try to get a little more out of the motor. You can check the voltage across the capacitor will tell you how fast the motor is going. It will burn it up at 240v though

I saw where it says that larger capacitors are more effective at handling voltage surges and fluctuations due to greater energy storage capacity.

That original 7.5 cap was a little over the % mark. (7.98) That could be why the fan malfunctioned.

I've been told by some less than reputable guys you can stick a bigger cap on there for basically a hard start situation. Never done it myself. I prefer to just swap the motor or compressor and not have to deal with it anymore personally. BTW you asked who you got in the NBA playoffs before. I said Luka and Kyrie are going to win it. Even though they just lost I'm still feeling pretty good about being up 3-1.
