These evaporator replacements (and low pay) are the primary reasons that I saved up and went back to college. It’s hard for me to watch these videos because I remember the severe heat, the dirt, and the sweat. Right after I graduated from college, I heard on the news that an HVAC tech died from heat stroke in a Houston attic.

I also plan to go back to school, HVAC just sucks and the pay is not good at all. Might as well do something more comfortable for the same amount.

now, try being an electrician, where you have to find/replace/run new wire buried deep in the insulation along the rafters. it's really fun when there's 3 feet deep blow in fiberglass, overtop old cellulous blow in, which is on top ancient yellow foil backed fiberglass batts. you wade through it, stand on your head and dig around up to your arm-pits. there will not be a single place you don't have fiberglass glued to and poking you. nothing stops that stuff and of course we all know it's 130F+ up there. then you find fully hidden junction boxes buried under it all and now have to eliminate those. 30 minutes, no-no, 4+ hours. stay hydrated, lots of water, always have someone spotting you from the entrance, if the A/C is broken anyway, open windows and put box fans blowing in! that will push air into the building and up through the attic pumping a lot of the stale air and heat out. 😁

Curtis, I put this on your last video. - hopefully it helps? In the few days I've been subbed, I've heard your knees crack/crunch on almost every video, infact every video. With your age (i know your not THAT old) but the fact you have a job which requires you to be up and down all the time and in awkward positions I'd bet on early osteoarthritis. IF you can, before your doctors appointment go to a pharmacy and buy yourself a knee brace - like one of those compression bandages but ones designed for your knee and give that a go for a few days, will help you until you've atleast spoken with the doctor. good look sir :)

Can I please give advice? Preformed ptraps are worth a few cents more.... and riser needs a cap so insulation and dust doesn't stop up drain. Reading some of comments and realizing most don't know what we go through to make a buck. Restaurant dish washers wanted more, Restaurant servers wanted more and expect a 15 to 20 dollar tip. How do we justify charging more for this kind of work when this economy is the highest inflation in our life's? Most people don't want to do this while making pennies and working for someone thats sitting behind their desk.

Wish my evaporator coil was accessible like that. I have a Carrier from about 2004 with the Evap coil stacked above the heat exchanger...no drain pan and you cannot get the coil out...can barely get that triangular plate off the side. Heat exchangers were replaced under class action lawsuit deal a few years ago.

Curtis, for that leaking valve at the condensing unit, buy a small bottle of Loctite 545 thread sealant. It is around $50, but well worth it. It is used on hydraulics - which has way more pressure than an A/C unit. It's the only thing I use when dealing with a leak like that one.

Must have a level walk way to the unit no less than 24x24" and a platform around the area to perfom work no less than 30x30" I walk away from that and dont think twice about it. I want to send you a small donation just for climbing into that confined area, tip-toeing over that minefield of an attic, and being a contortionist! 😳 Also, here's a suggestion: Get a cheap, plastic snow sled (the circular type), drill a hole through it, put a rope through the hole, and you can put all your stuff on it at the entry of an attic, crawl space, etc. You'll have to bungie or ratchet strap the items down, but you can crawl to the work area and then pull all your tools, parts, etc over.

I'm not in this business but I think I would take one look at the location of the furnace and "let me grab my flashlight out of my van" followed by a burnout and laughing. Why do people install furnaces in attics?? I'd think the whole thing wouldn't be very efficient given how hot/cold it gets up there. Not to mention some poor soul is gonna have to go maintain or replace the thing up there.
