It needs to be reduced after the 90 going down from the coil but before the 180 degree bend in the trap. The reducer after the trap is going to potentially cause issues with oil being stuck in it. Also if you reduce on a horizontal section of pipe then you cause oil to get stuck in the pipe / possibly evap before the reduction. Reducing it after the trap is definitely better than reducing it on the horizontal section after the coil, but reducing it on a vertical section before the trap would be best, as you would be increasing velocity through the trap helping the oil return. If you you reduce it after the trap you will reduce the velocity through the trap, possibly enough that you will not have oil return.

Would it not be better to connect to the fan circuit to prevent ice buildup in the drain during the call for refrigeration? Thanks for all your detailed video posts. 9:43 - Interesting. I would have expected a class C IP4 private network space (192.168.x.x) rather than a class B. I guess they’re anticipating a lot of devices connecting to each network (over sixty-five thousand hosts per subnet).

Efficiently is all well and good, but as they press harder for more, the systems are going to get more complex and it will cause problems. Look at all the complex stuff that's been put on cars: Computers to set the mixture, variable displacement oil pumps, fuel pump modules, complex battery management systems, etc. All to squeeze out an extra 1 MPG. And when they go bad, it gets expensive to fix.

What is the typical superheat with an EEV on a reefer unit. I know comfort cooling very well....but in all my years in this trade and the many reefer units I've worked on.....never touched one with an electronic expansion valve. I know the chillers i work on have typical ranges. Example air cooled chiller is typically 8-10° SH, centrifugal chillers run very low superheat from 0.5°- 5°. I got a kick out of how jazzed you were to see the data on your iPad. It's cool to see reefer equipment getting into the more modern available types of extracurricular controls. As a side note...I wonder if that card has the ability to except AI's....you could use some CT's and see if fans are running, compressor is running, heaters are running....etc etc. Analog Inputs give you the ability to see multiple modulating values.
