Chris. In the event of a fire in the cooking equipment and the Ansul system trips the purpose of the exhaust fans continue to run is not to suck the air out of the building but to distribute the fire suppressing, (chemical or liquid) up the ducts to suffocate the fire in ducts. I am familiar with the Ansul system as that is the brand that was used by the restaurant chain that I dealt with.

Gotta get yourself the extra attachment set for that circuit tracer big dog! This is great in a pinch, but when you’ve got that little set in your bag it makes a huge difference. It’s also helpful for figuring out which breaker controls the lights for that one that the wife always wants changed 😂

Even up here in northern California very few people know what a combustion analyzer is besides it’s the one box in the tool room that’s super dusty. More and more commercial replacements I see are leaning away from gas heating and just running heat pumps, often without heat-strips as we seldom get long periods below 45* during business hours

I would have assumed multiple units on one roof would be cheaper if done at once, one crane, etc. Is that not the case, or just cashflow/ wanting to keep running thus needing to keep a certain amount of capacity online overriding the lower total cost?

I agree the air change in the box can go from 9F to 76F in a few seconds with the large door opening. And the units in a area that sees 110F all summer, they need to be oversized a bit. The compressor cooler is going to see about 10% of the refrigerant going into the compressor not from the evaporator, but the compressor cooling valve. I like to have the walk in refrigerator outside of the freezer door, so they only see 40F air coming into the walk in freezer. I agree, you can not have a air defrost on a walk in that you are trying to reach 32F all the time. When I started working at a retirement center, I had to install a defrost timer on a walk in refrigerator that would only maintain 41F all the time. It collected ice on part of the coil, but by shutting it off for 1 hour each night at 2 am, the ice left and I was able to reach 39F all day long.

Those FIeldpiece manometer probes are really sensitive to heat. I used them underhood in an airplane to measure engine air cooling pressure differential. They were fine for 10 minutes and then drifted. They only saw about 150 degF, but that was enough.
@throttlebottle5906
@throttlebottle5906 23 сағат бұрын
it was likely battery voltage drift, as the peak charge/recovery charge dropped off. it's not just that brand, it's ALL of them. even the highest end NIST certified ones, with magic integrated have drift. granted they are far more controlled and have specific usage directions to curb the drifting. much like old vacuum tube type gear, you had to power on and warm them up for 30 minutes to hours for stabilization and that's give a controlled temperature and air flow location. xxx I may not be the sharpest or shiniest tool in the box xxx 🤔

There's no reason that motor couldn't be mounted on a plate which is then itself bolted to the fan base plate via bolts from the top (surrounding the motor). The company should be designing this for service. It wouldn't fix the issue of needing to remove the impeller though, something you don't have to do for a motor replacement on a belt drive. Also even though that is single phase 110V the design could just have a VFD driving a 3-phase motor from the single phase. Then you don't have the starter and run caps and all the other wonky junk you ran into . For sure these companies are being a bit too cheap on their designs. Maybe the customers are driving that really, only buying the cheapest models.

You got a solid crew, Chris. Kudos to you for not settling for anything less than your best effort. I'd like to think im a hard worker myself. I've been in a lead position for many years now. I make it a point to do the crap work myself and show my guys that no task on a job is too small or messed up that i won't do it myself. I'm most proud if in my career......the quality of the guys I've trained. Have you ever considered adding in a building static pressure transducer that way you can really have the equipment maintain the proper pressure. I run across it all the time and it makes a big difference. We have a kitchen in a big fancy hotel here in Austin we take care of that is set up on building pressure and it runs an analog output to the exhaust fan VFD'S to modulate their speed in accordance with the MUA. We have some really nice equipment that can maintain building pressure really well. Our Rebel and Maverick 2 units are top notch. #daikinapplied

I use the Sauermann combustion analyzer. Bought the FP and returned it to TTT. The FP had problems at low levels of CO. Combustion analazers zero themselves when starting. This should be done out away from any buildings with the hoses detached. FP can't be started with the probe detached. I have found my hoses holding CO weeks after shutting the unit down. Measuring the draft pressure needs to be done above the draft hood while gas and termp are sampled below the draft hood, Sauermann's manometer can be separated from the sensing probe with the kit designed by NCI. Many brands can't do this. FP hydrocycle can't fit under the draft hood on an older furnaces without inducer motors. Sauermann also has an optional flexible probe so you don't have to drill as many holes like when testing a water heaters. Most of the problems you will have in a home are related to the water heater, because they are so easy to back draft. Just putting my flashlight on my water heater caused a substantial change in my draft pressure. I got the Sauermann SI-CA 130 with Nox, but Nox is not necessary for most unless you are starting up large boilers with air adjustments and are required to meet environmental standards. Most of the best combustion analyzers are made in or for Europe because testing is required yearly. I mostly use it to check for heat ex-changer cracks. Oxygen will rise when the blower starts, don't need to break anything apart to see the heat ex-changer. This can be so difficult on residential furnaces. There is so much it will tell you like if you are recycling your own exhaust on a 90+ or if there is a blockage in your draft pipe. TTT has the letters published on their website from all major manufactures of B-vent on the proper way to drill holes in it for testing.

Its all about perspective. To me a 30 ton unit is very small. The nice thing is they do the same thing. Transfer heat....only real difference is the controls and extra components that are added. I frequently work on 100+ ton RTU'S. Heavy commercial is a lot of fun. If you aren't the selling type....I advise you to explore our side...we always need good techs.
