I have watched, no joke, probably 10+ hours of videos on guys showing how to paint with HVLP and this was THE most useful video about gun setup by far. I think the biggest thing is that you showed what happens when the settings are too far out, which is extremely easy to do when you're new. Most guys just show "always set the gun up like this" which is hardly useful for DIYers who don't have access to a paint booth or live in more extreme climates. Thank you!!!

IDK if you'll ever read this comment, but THANK YOU SO MUCH for this video. 🙏🏻 I'm new to painting with a gun like this, and was having trouble with dry paint ending up all textured and pebble-y. I watched dozens of YT vids, but YOUR video SAVED my project! A 1955 GMC pickup truck I am restomodding. Especially the part beginning at 2:11. Thank you for explaining this so amazingly well! I applied an AMAZINGLY smooth, glossy coat of single-stage black urethane on my pickup's roof last night. And honestly, that's been the toughest part to paint with primer to date. This morning, it looks like black glass. Just amazing! Thank you again so very much! 💙💙💙

I purchased this same kit from HF about one year ago, and finally put it to use a few weeks ago. I used the smaller detail gun to apply several coats of shellac to a few kitchen cabinet doors that I built...gun worked very well and gave an excellent finish. I'm just now using the larger gun to paint a master closet cabinet that I built...I switched to the 1.8 nozzle for two coats of latex primer (sanded between coats), and plan to spray the paint soon. For the primer and paint, I thinned using about 3 ozs of water per quart of paint. I know HF gets a bad rap, but these guns work surprisingly well...no clogs, no spitting.
@imagineform5 жыл бұрын
Totally! I originally bought mine because I had just spent $50 on a seals kit for a high end gun, I figured I would give HF a shot thinking even if I had to toss the gun after a month it would be worth it. Some of them were in heavy daily use for over a year!
@photog15295 жыл бұрын
@@imagineform Just finished spraying two coats of thinned Sherwin Williams Pro Classic enamel...big gun worked like a charm with no drips or clogs, although I had to wait on occasion for my compressor to get back to pressure...the big gun just needs too much air (more than my compressor can handle). I did pick up the HF purple gun yesterday for $9 on sale, but it only comes with a 1.4 tip. I took a #50 drill bit and drilled the tip to a 1.8 tip size...I'll see how that works. The purple gun specs match that of my compressor more closely.

I've been considering using rattle cans or an airless sprayer to paint my 1965 Ford Galaxie. HVLP just seemed too complex and I didn't get any smarter watching a lot of other KZbin videos. THIS video is what I needed to know - how to USE the HVLP gun. Reading boring directions is one thing but seeing a live demonstration is far superior. Now I will use an HVLP gun which will give me a much better finish than any other method. Although, some guys HAVE painted their cars with rollers :)). I suppose some guys have even just thrown the bucket of paint on their cars, too, but I think I want something a little better.

Wow. This is the best spray painting tutorial I've seen! I wish I had found it before I painted my car, three days ago. I made the mistake of using about 28psi when the gun has a 1.4mm hole in the spray nozzle. I did that despite the manual saying to use 40psi, because some other people said they like to spray using 27-28psi or 28-29psi. They must have been using guns with smaller (maybe 1mm) diameter spray nozzles. The result was having to use the gun at about 6-10 inches away, instead of 20 inches, as in the user guide, due to the pressure being too low. The paint also ended up rather rough, so I'm going to have to use a cutting compound to smooth it down, after the paint hardens.

Thank you for sharing tips and tricks makes it easier to know what to do to get started on some basic stuff 👍🏽I have used it a long time ago on the dash of my truck. I mixed up rustolum paint thin it then just went for it. The hardest part of the whole thing was prepping the dash so when the black paint went on it would look good. No one knew the difference when I parked it at a car show. Auto paint black for a small can was $80.00 conpaird to $8.00 can of black paint of RUSTOLUME. I wouldn't use it for the out side of it. I would buy inexpensive paint before I would use RUSTOLUME I've seen it done but you could notice it looked like a really cheap paint job on the car. You can wet sand and buff out the Orenge peel. There is a video of some guy cutting and buffing but he is a professional that wanted to show it could be done not to count in the factor of how many car's and truck's he's done in his life time.

Low buck build in the early 80's. First truck I owned, and was a family build. Only thing farmed out was the Fury front clip welded on for IFS. I've only sprayed primer, dad always sprayed the paint. He recently passed away, so I want to go through my neglected truck. Hopefully a paint supply shop can mix the colour. Charcoal grey with extra metallic. It pretty much looks black.
