When TSMC announced they were looking at building a FAB in Arizona I said it would be a mistake. Why? Because water. Their FAB in Taiwan shutdown several years ago because a typhoon knocked out their local supply of clean water. The water supply in Arizona already isn't in a good state and is expected to become more restrictive in the future. You can make chips or you can provide people with water to drink, but they aren't going to be able to do both. Both Intel and TSMC deciding to build multi-billion dollar FABs in Arizona because of tax benefits may turn out to be some of the biggest business blunders ever.

Shipping sulfuric acid from Taiwan to Arizona for cost savings sounds absolutely nuts, US is the second largest producer itself after china.. and this is a product with a very low cost vs. volume, plus any transport is essentially a hazmat shipment
@probro1019 күн бұрын
Sounds like grift or lies from TMSC
@MCJemFinch8 күн бұрын
Most of the US production is industrial grade sulfuric acid, which cannot be used for semiconductors. I wouldn't trust an American company since management tends to cut the QC department to the bare minimum and they hire the cheapest people who barely know what they're doing. Why switch suppliers when they know what they're getting is already good and has a proven track record. Bad chemicals could trash millions worth of chips.
@gamernerd71398 күн бұрын
This is not lies. This is what happens when you allow the government to create regulations in the name of "safety". Results in more approvals and bureaucratic red tape. And net result is the increased cost of manufacturing in the US. As a consumer you want your chips to be cheap, right?
@ffwast8 күн бұрын
I've encountered this kind of nonsense at work, it's the government. It's cheaper to drive the work truck halfway across the state and back to buy pails of oil all the time than it is to get the government to let us just pour the oil in the pail.
@Bob_Smith198 күн бұрын
If you think sulfuric acid shrouding be regulated for “safety” I can tell you’ve never worked w/ it. I’m not saying there isn’t over regulation. But safety regulations are certainly required w/ it. HW News was just like the others. That either means, that the intern is really good or the other ones are on a level of intern workmanship 😁 If Steve haven't mentioned it, I wouldn't have guessed it. Good job!

Man, I feel TSMC's pain. My employer has some construction/infrastructure projects in AZ, and it seems like every other day some group or another crawls out and starts demanding a cut. Usually by lobbying and having their legislators strongarm the company into giving them a piece of the pie. It gets even worse when government money is involved.

If it’s in Maricopa County that’s par for the course. They are no better than Chicago or NY when it comes to corruption. Arizona has been ruined by California transplants.

It makes zero sense to me that a multi trillion dollar company can’t produce enough gpu for the demand . It’s to the point where they are costing themselves money in the end by lost sales

They are creating scarcity and driving up the street price. How is that bad for profits when they "sell out" of msrp founder cards in seconds and all that's left is AIB models with 2x msrp? This is by design, so the 5090 looks good on price to fps charts which use the MSRP while real street price is twice that. Ngreedia is nasty af.
@ChristopherOrth9 күн бұрын
Supply limited due to communications issue with the AIB partners.... bullshit. What, was it? "Oh, did you want some chips for your cards? Really? Wow, my bad guys. You should have texted me or something. Man, you didn't say anything so I totally didn't make you any chips." More like, "we announced and launched the product before we were ready to produce enough for demand so we could get a stock bump in Q4". Then spin the undersupply as "tremendous demand" and Nvidia can get another stock jump in Q1 when we are in middle of the next card drought! Master moves.

hello any potential ltt viewers, remember you can criticize both GN and LTT and still enjoy their content👍
@HelloEveryone-v4s9 күн бұрын
is steve going to just complain every product in the video again?
@frankb.80719 күн бұрын
@ i rather someone complain about everything than accept everything as it is. that’s one thing i like about GN, theyre very picky about products and dont hesitate to point out issues, even if sometimes they go overboard. at the end of the day the consumer is the benefitter

LTT sucks and has done since about 3 years ago. Why do people still cling to "old Linus"? Since his wife took his job LTT is a waste of space. GN were last to that particular party, long time WAN show viewers who had a clue figured this out and left ages ago. Linus is now officially a thieving commie. And helloeveryone is a fake account ffs get a life!!

Tell this the GN viewers. They are the only salty people I've seen since the whole shitshow.

I don’t own an Intel card, but I want them to succeed in the GPU space. It would be rad to see an Intel K|NGP|N GPU.

Just a heads up, that Silverstone Floppy chassis is just the HTPC Silverstone GD09B with a slightly different face plate. I built a HTPC using that chassis and it was ok. The major issue is thermals. Airflow is very limited since the GPU splits the case, effectively only getting airflow from a single 120mm fan. The other issue is with the drive cage in the cooler options are MASSIVELY limited. AIO’s are a no go without modification to the case. The largest cooler I could fit was the Noctua NH-U9S which due to lack of airflow could only keep my 5800X3D down to the low to mid 70’s while gaming.
