Another note on Hwei's encounter with Jhin: in the teaser right before we see Jhin's explosion, we see 4 figures and Hwei being the 5th. Jhin always kills in multiples of 4, meaning he would have no reason to take Hwei's life as well, thus he is spared.

This is a cool touch! It makes me wonder if maybe Jhin *INTENDED* for Hwei to be the 4th, but developed a soft spot for him while planning it and stalled for a 5th to show up? I don't know if we're getting flavour stories anymore, so we may not know. Side note, is the whole "We're leaving everything open to speculation" just Riot's convenient way of covering for the fact they laid off all the narrativists? Like, are we praising them for firing folks to turn more profit? Hmm.

Banking off of the "Hwei doesn't see the world the same", I think it may be literal. If you listen to his voice lines when meeting people he sees them with colors surrounding them or AS colors, probably reflective of their emotions and desires. He may see the world and people as different colors, that he can then manipulate with his own colors.

I don't really think that there's a demon behind his story, as it wasn't enough that he has ptsd from his crazed and maniacal mentor, Jhin, and he uses this feeling to fuel and alter his art magic that was practiced in the monastery.

Doesn't really work, since it was stated he was already toying with forbidden magics before Jhin arrived. He was ALREADY doing things differently from how the monastery intended. Jhin changed the trajectory of his life and and the subject of his art, but it sounds like he had already settled on a medium.

​@@Mr97kriss Ki, basically. Yi's is the Wuju style manipulation of life energy, and Karma's is ancestral power, given that she's basically the avatar. Neither of them are tied to emotions in any way. They are both also strictly "good" characters. Hwei is *NOT* strictly good, and his power *IS* directly tied to emotions, as well as all the other evidence provided in this video and others that he has demon ties. I'm not sure why you're so willing to die on this hill. Every single thing about Hwei's lore and teasers so far point toward demon involvement.

Yeah i thought the same. You know how evelynn makes their victims reach peak bliss before torturing and un-aliving them? Maybe the demon of despair tortures them with disasters, then calms them down with a few moments of serenity, continues with a struck of torment and then strikes with disaster again, restarting the cycle. I thought that "ouroboros simbology" was meant to represent that viscious cycle.

Hwei is strongly reminiscent of Relm from FFVI. A mage that draws spells and is able to "control" them to a degree. Difference is Relm can draw you and make you fight yourself, and Strago himself says Relm is more talented than he is.
