@redman840 Dennis, I either run the FT-897D at 5 or 50 watts output power. At 5 watts out I get an entire day of operating time. At 50 watts out I've never killed the battery. Where this video was taken is at a local park and I set up for afternoon operations all of the time. At times I've even run 100 watts out but only for those contacts that are hard to make. If I was taking this rig on a camping trip I'd use a car battery or a boat deep cycle battery. Use a 26 am battery for extended use.

@n8mrc The antenna is probably only 6 miles from this site. I tried other repeater in the Allentown / Bethlehem area and the setup did well. I am not trying to compare this antenna to a beam. I am just trying to show you that it does work on 2 meters.....and works well !

The repeater was not that far, probably only 10 miles. I was just trying to make a point that the antenna will work on 2 meters. I did not have a 2 meter swr meter with me.

Barry, using the FT-897D and the external power source, how much usage time do you normally get with this battery and how much wattage output do you normally use for HF with the 897D?..I normally run my 703+ @ 10w,but curious how much run time you get out of this setup?..73.Dennis W7KB.
