There is an episode where Richard mentions that Hyacinth lost interest in him after she became pregnant with Sheridan. One has to assume that Hyacinth was only willing to put up with sex for the sake of conceiving a son or daughter and once she did, it was no longer required. Give how fond and doting she is of him (even though he's never around), it stands to reason that she would have planned something like this out.
