The SK government insisted that BTS be mandated to serve in the military, which seemed much more important to government officers and military administrators than having BTS draw mere 'tourists' for the economic benefits to the country. BTS won't lose International BTS fans (I-ARMYs) because of this but their tourist draw inside the country may decrease somewhat. I think the government officials who voted against giving the group the respect they earned will lose much more.

Yes!, they were adamant that BTS follows the law and enlist, so The SK Gov themselves should follow the law. It is infringement on IP rights! and BTS is worth so much. I have been saying that SK Gov are not visionaries and will lose in terms of economic gain post pandemic, when BTS enlist. They have the easiest economy booster but choose to ICE it!🤦♀

How can the Korean government argue that sculptures representing BTS are so valuable but the actual members are not as valuable. Especially when neither HYBE nor BTS has a say in how their image is displayed or used. The local government would have complete control. Makes no sense to me and seems very hypocritical. They want to continue making money off the popularity of the group while BTS cannot do the same. Yes, protect their rights. BTS and anything representing BTS is owned by the members themselves. No one has the right to use their name for profit. They wanted BTS to serve but didn’t think about the decline in revenue for the country. They decided BTS had to serve, so let them serve as regular Korean citizens without having to worry about someone using their name however they want. Edit: Also, remember how “the local government” bungled the Busan concert? HYBE had to step in to clean up their mess and make sure the venue was safe for ARMY. BTS gets charged back, as most artists do, for any $ the company spends on their behalf. So BTS essentially footed the bill. Oh and they called on BTS to save the Boy Scouts gathering. No…they would just use BTS’s name for their own benefit.

I think there was more tolerance of unsanctioned BTS things by governments in SK prior to it being clear that SK was not going to come to a compromise on military service and the government thought they could (and to an extent still are) use BTS for their purposes and promotion (examples - military is now cool because BTS is there and getting a pretty high profile, the Camp efforts to monetize the members for their profit - which probably also benefited the military financially, bid for the World Fair in Busan, speaking at the UN, while in the military asking them to bail out a failed K-Pop festival or asking J-Hope to host a cooking show). Several members are also businessmen and I can see them taking more control over their image and career and brand even while in the military. I'm glad Hybe is drawing the line in the sand on behalf of the members. It is just too bad that Army loses chances to see the members or engage with beloved artifacts as a result.

And this is conveniently happening while they are in the military.🤔 I have always defended and said good things about Big Hit/Hybe but first dynamic pricing, then NFT's, now removing signs and tributes?
