I was watching the 2023 KBS Drama Awards just now and saw a Dream High 1 rendition by Taecyeon, Suzy, and Kim Soo-hyun. Seeing the artists perform to that drama's OST 12 years later hit me hard. I really wish I could have added 2023 Dream High 1 performance in this video, since I just finished final edits just before the drama awards. Here's the URL to that performance: twitter.com/girlinyearning/status/1741455576004002249 As other commenters have mentioned, I really wished that I talked more about 2PM's drama careers. I didn't have enough time before the publishing date to add more drama info. If there's any other milestones from 2PM that I missed (I know I missed a ton), please let me know! Although it's too late to add the clip in this video, we can still talk about it in the comments or Discord channel. Thanks to everyone that's watched this video. It means so much to me! -- Jason

I have discovered K-pop last year, and it came through watching K-dramas with Junho and Taecyeon, following up and listening to 2pm and instantly falling in love with that group. It's been about a year now and 2PM is still the group I think is best of those I've heard. Became a Stray Kids fan through them, as well, but 2PM will always be closest to my heart. It's not only the music - it's their whole vibe, their friendship, craziness, kindness and genuine-ness. I just love them as humans and wish they were my friends to hang out with.

Chinese Hottests like to say that 2PM is a "buy one, get five free" deal 😂 You like one member, find out they are from 2PM, look up 2PM videos and suddenly you have a soft spot for his 5 crazy brothers too. They don't post about one another on SNS all the time but from their conversations in videos and the way they talk about each other separately, you can tell that they hang out and are very close.

I really enjoyed this video. You really gave 2PM the respect they deserved. It would be great if you could do a video on their solo careers. It is really impressive how much all these 6 men have accomplished. Junho-yes my favorite - solo music is amazing. The fact that he has performed over 100 solo concerts. And his acting-which he is winning major awards with is literally on another level. Honestly these men are my happy 😊 place

I just discovered Junho this past August by watching RAIN or SHINE. My absolute favorite KDrama. At the same time I started watching KTL. It actually took me a couple of minutes to realize Junho was in both dramas. From Junho’s very first scene in Rain or Shine-he had me hooked. So I googled him-and I fell hard down the rabbit hole of Junho’s!!!!! And in turn became a fan of the ONLY Boy group I have ever followed. There is something so very special about these men. Their bond and how they truly love, respect, and support each other. And what impresses me the most is how incredibly talented all these men are. They are so much more than Hands Up, Adtoy, Go Crazy- their discography is really good.

What is even more impressive about 2PM is that they didn't really suffer from being known as "XXX's group" like many groups with a member(s) who is more popular and/or well-known (e.g. 4minute, gugudan, etc). The 6 of them managed to balance solo activities with group promotions quite well and always made time for group activities when needed. They also identified very strongly with 2PM even though back then there was a more negative stereotype within the k-entertainment industry associated with idol group members.

I’m late to the 2pm party!!! I just learned of them by way of Junho’s blockbuster “King the Land.” From there, I entered into a total immersion of his Kdramas and films and, by extension, the career progression of 2pm. This late discovery of KPop as an entire musical genre gave me a crash course in music appreciation! Thanks to KZbin, I feel I have a unique perspective since, in less than six months, I have watched them all grow up from kids to mature adults in their 30s. All this to say that I am proud to be a member of the exciting 2pm fandom. It’s great to be a part of the support they have received over their 15 years. Their impact and influence is sure to continue. They have shown what it takes to capture and retain fans, even those like me who just became aware of them in their 15th year! And I wish I had known about them years ago -- I lived only minutes away from Newark, New Jersey, one of their stops in their career early on.😢 Now I can only hope that a major US tour might be announced, including a stop New York. I live about an hour from the City and definitely won’t pass up the chance to see them!

@@Popsori Since I'm a actor/drama (Taec/Vincenzo) fan who became a 2PM fan, I think I'd recruit other fans who know about Junho, Chansung, or Taec only from dramas, and show them some 2PM content. Fans can see another side of their actor, and they're sure to see the chaotic charm of the group! Thank you for this educational and entertaining history lesson! I like to learn about the various generations, which songs and groups really made an impact, and why. This is the first video I have seen about 2 PM. It's probably the best managed/marketed group I've ever heard of. Branching out eg. having Japanese-only music and having the idols participate in K-drama were brilliant moves. All JYP's ideas? If so, this man is a visionary and a trailblazer yet I often see only sneering remarks about him. ("He's old!" "It's embarrassing!" ?! I saw a lot of comments about the Babymonster debut being "embarrassing" so maybe that's a cool word for detractors to use despite it not making a lot of sense. 🙄) Even if JYP only ran his company, or if he only still songwrote and performed, this would be pretty darn impressive, but the fact that he does all of it is really something else. He might be more than one person! 🤯 It is heartwarming to hear that the 2PM members have stuck together throughout their challenges, successes, and a FIVE year long hiatus. When a group or a soloist are extremely popular early on in their career, there are always people who disparage them. It often takes a decade or longer for people to recognize/admit that the group or soloist were actually talented and made a cultural impact eg. Spice Girls, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber. As for 4th gen fans not knowing who 2PM are, is it because the English speakers who were live streaming A2K were mostly American/British and were not previously into K-pop? Or is it also Korean kids and teens who think anything older than 2019 is ancient history? Or both? NCT New Team has a "Hands Up" song. I'm very excited about the debuts of VCHA and NEXZ! Thank you very much for the video! Happy new year! 🙏🎶🎉🍾🪩✨
@mxgirl918 Жыл бұрын
People can sneer all they like but JYP the man composed over 50 songs that took home number 1 trophies on music programs. Sometimes I feel like the internet is overpopulated with brainless keyboard warriors who do things like: see a snippet of SKZ guesting on Wooyoung's show Beat Coin and still comment "Ateez Wooyoung" despite the fact that there was a 2PM hashtag.🤣
@dronesclubhighjinks Жыл бұрын
@@mxgirl918 that is absolutely brilliant of JYP! Social media does seem to have a herd- or hive mind mentality, especially with negative news, or anything that can be twisted to sound negative like Wonyoung eating a strawberry she is holding with both hands. The only time I have seen anyone admitting to contributing to hate and later kind of regretting it is in the comment sections of MVs of an English K-pop girl group named Kaachi. One person even wrote that they contributed to the hate because everybody was doing it, but this person did not even fully understand the reason for the backlash against Kaachi. Know this person feels kind of bad about it. This sounds like somebody who has become more mature, which is always encouraging! In almost all other cases, people will even deny facts, if the fact contradicts what they want to believe. This seems to apply to the haters, as well as to the “toxic positivity“ crowd, who refuse to acknowledge any criticism against their faves, and who attack all critics. 🙏😄🎶
@Popsori Жыл бұрын
No problem at all! Thank you for watching! I'm always honored to see comments like this. 2PM was really a trailblazer in K-pop. As you said, they branched out to Japan, did Japanese-only songs, had the idols do K-dramas, etc. I know there's many Western fans that hate on JYP, but he's done a lot more good in K-pop than bad. He marketed 2PM very well, he predicted K-pop trends ahead of time, he often writes his group's songs, and he develops new talent very well. Plus, he's a performer himself and he does TV audition shows, such as America 2 Korea, and created VCHA from that show. It's great to see 2PM being around for 15+ years and counting. Their drama careers keep them in the spotlight as well, with many newer fans just discovering them through dramas like Junho's "King the Land." As for 4th gen fans not knowing who 2PM are, I think it's most Western fans that were on the A2K live stream. I really wish I screen shotted those comments. I was shocked to see 60%+ comments like "nugu?" or "who?" when Nichkhun came out on A2K as a guest judge. Many Western K-pop fans only know the big, 4th gen groups like BTS, Stray Kids, Blackpink, Twice, and NewJeans. Many Korean kids know 2PM as "who their parents or aunts and uncles listened to back in the day." Thank you again for watching and posting some great comments! 😀👍

@@dronesclubhighjinks With great popularity and recognition also comes great hatred and jealousy, sadly. The average knetz doesn't have a particularly good rep in the books of many social anthropologists and cultural commentators because they notoriously cyber-bullied or spread false rumors about celebrities, leading to careers and reputations being affected. Tablo of Epik High and the late U;Nee and Choi Jin-sil (both committed suicide) are probably the more high-profile victims.

Taecyeon from 2pm drew me towards this group. since he debuted he worked his butt off, since 2010 he drop drama every year till 2023 now except in 2018 and 2019 which was his enlistment period and he also left his USA citizenship for military service. I really admire him and the 2pm members they are doing well also they did wonderfully in the past. for those who are saying they only know how to take off a shirt, I want to say that 2pm members have a nice physique since they debuted and they are perfect, healthy, and strong they are not fragile like the idols we see in the 4th generation. well, I am also a kid of the 4th generation but I love 2pm because they are more natural, and frank as they openly talked about so many things since they debut, more mature, most funniest idols I have ever seen, and seem more caring and kind.

Between me and you (and whomever else is reading this), * I may or may not * already have a Big Bang script in the works. It's soooo long, since there's so much to cover with their impact on K-pop. For much of 2022 and the first half of 2023, the members weren't even in the same country because of either solo tours or drama-related commitments so there probably wasn't much time to compose music or plan for an album. Also they won't do an actual comeback unless all 6 members are present. They did appear on Wooyoung's show Beat Coin and got a nice proper tribute. Crazy loud chaos as usual plus them getting to "torture" Wooyoung at the end of it all😂 You can google for episodes 51 and 52. Eng subs are up.

Beastly idols! Monstax inherited the title for 3rd gen Boy Group. To date, Dreamcatcher is the only female idol group to also be called beastly idols. Beastly idols share an ability to sing stable live wile performing intense, physically demanding chores. I only got into kpop in 2020, but I really prefer the music of 2nd and 3rd gen. (I still only stan iKON, but there are a lot of amazing groups in 2 and 3rd gen).

Oooof, I wouldn't call 4th gen fans dumb, but rather, a lot of them didn't grow up with the earlier gen groups. I do agree that 2PM is so good though and oozes talent!

Hello Popsori, hi i'm your subscriber from Indonesia. I'm curios In 2PM prime from 2009-2012. How you rank them in top 3 most popular boyroup in Korea? My ranking as someone who not lived there! Just by estimation. 2009 1. SUJU 2. TVXQ 3. BIGBANG 4. SS501 2010 1. SUJU 2. 2PM 3. SHINEEe 4. BIGBANG 2011 1. SUJU 2. BIGBANG 3. 2PM 4. SHINEE 2012 1. BIGBANG 2. SUJU 3. SHINEE 4. TVXQ 5. 2PM Where's your correction?

Hello and I hope you're doing well there in Indonesia! Your list on 2PM's popularity in Korea is very accurate. From my time living in Korea, I would agree with you in nearly every selection. I would change just a few rankings. I'll be ranking these groups based solely on their popularity within Korea, not in Japan/China/Indonesia/Asia or any other country a group did promotions in. I won't be basing this just on sales (although this is important). I'll also base my opinions on what I saw in living in Korea too. With that being said, let's break down your list! Note: --> means what I would replace a group with 2009 1. SUJU 2. TVXQ 3. BIGBANG 4. SS501 --> SHINee My take: I would probably replace SS501 with SHINee. SS501 was really popular in 2007 and 2008, but by 2009, I didn't hear as much about them compared to the other boy groups. Suju exploded with "Sorry Sorry" that year, TVXQ were legendary at the time, and BigBang was really popular as well, even with their solo work. I wanted to put BigBang over TVXQ, but TVXQ was just insanely popular during that time. The top 3 in 2009 was so competitive and had some incredible male groups. 2010 1. SUJU 2. 2PM 3. SHINEEe 4. BIGBANG Agree completely with this. BigBang went to Japan to promote for much of that year. They also did a lot of solo songs as well. 2PM had some serious bangers during this year and was even in the news for Jay Park leaving. Despite the Jay Park news, 2PM had a lot of ads during this time. You saw them and Girls Generation everywhere on posters and on TV. Their song "Heartbeat" was being played a lot. SHINee was doing really well and BigBang, even in Japan, was still very popular. 2011 1. SUJU 2. BIGBANG 3. 2PM 4. SHINEE I agree with this ranking completely. While I wanted to say BigBang being #1, as I heard them everywhere during this time, I also heard Suju a lot too. Suju's popularity, loyal fan base, and insane sales during this time makes them the #1 male group in 2011. 2PM was really popular during this time with the song "Hands Up." You heard this at cafes, at colleges, and at clubs all the time. The amount of times I've heard this while walking in Gangnam I can't count. For many fans, "Hands Up" remains 2PM's signature song. 2012 1. BIGBANG 2. SUJU 3. SHINEE 4. TVXQ 5. 2PM 6. ---> EXO I agree with these rankings as well. BigBang was the premiere male group now, overtaking Suju. TVXQ, while still popular, took a big hit after the big split in 2010. I would add a #6 with EXO by the end of 2012. I was hearing so much about them by this time and by 2013, would become the biggest male group for the next several years. B.A.P is another group I was tempted to add. I heard a lot about them as well, as they were huge from 2012-2014. ----- Your list was fun to talk about, as you definitely know your K-pop. I would say that since you live in Asia, you have a good idea of who would be popular in Korea during 2009-2012 :) Thanks so much for the message! EDIT: added more info

@@Popsori thanks for confirming it. It so rare to have k-pop yourutubers who like to read and reply comments. I thought SS501 were still in peak in 2009, because of Boys over Flower. I predicted, you would put 2PM as 2nd in 2011 iver Bigbang. I'm shocked that i'm right about it. I'm just curious about how Bigbang was more popular than 2PM in 2011, while Hands Up was more popular back than any Bigbang's song that released in 2011 (i think the most popular one was Tonight)? I'm just curious

Apologies for not replying earlier, as I wanted to. I was on a business trip for 2 weeks and didn't get back until now. Let's talk about 2nd gen questions! I do agree that SS501 was still popular in 2009 because of Boys over Flowers. SHINee, the group I put above SS501, was also becoming quite popular at the time too. They were charting all over the Korean music charts and had the song, "Ring Ding Dong," which was incredibly popular. SHINee being SM Entertainment's newest male group at the time was also a big factor, as they were in the spotlight often. But if you put SS501 over SHINee and in the top 3 male groups in 2009, I can't blame you either. As for BigBang being more popular than 2PM, this group was everywhere in Korea after 2008. Even when the group did Japanese promotions, fans were waiting for their Korean return. YG Entertainmentin 2010-2011 was quite dominant those days in Korea and BigBang was a big reason why. Everyone knew who YG was. They also came out with the Tonight EP, which did very well in sales and popularity. I remember BigBang getting a slew of big awards at the end of 2011 at the MTV EMAs and MAMAs. Their 15th YG Anniversary tour also sold out and was insane attending. I do think 2PM is extremely well with "Hands Up" (it's probably in my top 3 songs in 2011), but the overall impact of BigBang was only beaten out by Suju in 2011, in my humble opinion.
