Holsters are a bit like engine oil or gun oil: everybody's holster is the best! :-) A representative sampling of quality holsters was my main objective here. Doubt that my mission will be to try to obtain every holster out there, although I might do a follow-up at some point if I end up with several good ones not shown in this video.

One other difference between the various hybrids that some appreciate is whether or not the hardware is covered or exposed on the body side. The "princess and the pea" types can find exposed rivets uncomfortable during extended wear. The Minotaur MTAC, for example, has smooth leather stitched over the hardware that makes it more comfortable for some.

Yeah, they really don't quite fit the genre with two spread-out clips and such. The main reason I included it was the large pad, which cushions the gun really well. I don't know that the weight is spread out as with the others, but people can decide that for themselves. I've not worn it enough to be sure about that.

Not at all. I have a barn full of stuff that will never end up in a video. Guns, holsters, & ammo are three staples of shooting, and I look forward to showing them. Now, I DO get some quirky holsters, or holsters that are nothing special that just don't ever make it to videos. This type of holster is quite a phenomenon the way it's taken over the IWB market. I love them and use them and wanted to show as many as possible.

The CompTac MTAC saved my hip in a motorcycle crash. no injury to the holster whatsoever. AMAZING! Concealed carry saved my from hip injury.

The Kydex is molded for specific guns, so you need either a different shell / scabbard or a whole different holster for different guns, at least with most of these I've seen. I don't care as much for one-size fits-all holsters when it comes to Kydex. Neither am I likely to switch out the scabbards to go from gun to gun. The biggest advantage in that feature, I think, is for when you sell off the gun and don't need it. Easy to convert the holster.

Yes, and they honor their life time replacement warranty. I accidentally bent the base and cracked it. When I called to get a replacement, they offered to send me another one for free or for $8 bucks I could get the new 3.0 base no questions asked. I didnt even have to send back the cracked one. I got the new one and I am liking it even more now. AlienGear has set a new standard in my opinion.

Professor Hickok, I have a revisit video idea: these hybrid style IWB holsters. It seems to me you are wearing OWB holsters most of the time in videos now. Or a holster video in general. It’s been a while. I feel like the one clip kydex IWB holsters have become more popular because of ease of getting them on and off (like getting into and out of a car) even though they don’t spread the pressure like these hybrids. I guess it might depend on whether one is going to carry for a quick trip to the grocery store or carry all day while not getting in and out of a car.

Crossbreed holsters started it, and quality wise they are still one of; if not the best in that area. I will say that my new love is a StealthGear USA, Onyx holster. Reasons: 1) Breathable. I can't stress this enough. In Georgia the humidity during the summer drove me to pocket carry as the leather backing on most hybrid holsters was disgusting, and uncomfortable at the end of the day. 2) Stealthgear really thought out their design. So much so; that I think crossbreed is going to have to change things up a little to keep market share. -Minimized the kydex...there is not excess kydex which does change where you belt contacts, and how that belt shapes to the holster. -Minimized the backer material size. There is no backing where you don't need it. -It still distributes the weight the way the crossbreeds, and galco king tucks etc. do. -The kydex on the stealth gear is tacked with philips screws like hickock just showed on this video. So ease of maintenance; and DIY kydex replacement is possible. -My guns' finishes have been effected by the soggyness of the leather sheet backings on most of these. Stealthgear protects the gun with 3 layers where the gun print is on the Onyx...the rest of the holster has see-through air passage holes. -BREATHABILITY; again " The air floweth within thine Onyx." glockster68 Zero complaints man. I still love it. I carry my glock 26 in it. No sweat soak through still. It keeps just like my crossbreed does. Draws the same etc. I like it better than my crossbreed overall. It's all subjective, but I think you'll like the onyx.

Hidden Hybrid is the obvious choice here, there's to many on the bench... Hickok seems like completely down to earth and in any comparison I've seen of his he has never said one thing bad about a brand/make/model... I just bought the Hybrid Holster and got 10% off, GREAT deal, no shipment gouging either.. I feel for the money you can't beat a universal holster like that.. I have a Alien Gear 2.0 I ordered for my Beretta PX4 compact. The adjustable cant lets me wear it with fairly light clothing with out printing . What's great is that it works wonderfully with both my Walther PPS, and my Bersa Thunder.

I just bought a real nice hybrid holster. It’s a full kydex holster but it has leather squares on each side with a clip on each. It super comfortable. It’s called black point. It’s different from every other hybrid holster I’ve seen. You should check it out

For years while I was a police officer and later for civilian concealed carry, I used the traditional IWB holster. They always were a bit uncomfortable (especially with a revolver) and always got sweat soaked. After watching your video I got a King Tuck from Galco. What a difference. Its great.. keep the videos coming.

There's a guy who sometimes sets up at gunshows around Nashville that makes some that are all leather. They don't impress me too much, as the leather looked about five times as thick as Kydex. That alone turns me off; however, it would probably work. It's just that the thick leather I saw would render the entire package the same as carrying a G21 instead of a G19. :-)

I gauge it by the reinforcement of the leather. most of these hybrid holster that I see is a single layer slab of leather with a kydex shell bolted onto it. To me I don't see a whole lot of ingenuity or thought put into it. It's too elementary. Reason why I look high upon MTAC and HHH is because of the reinforcement of the leather backing of both products. I agree that the other kind of hybrid holster works, but the lack of thought put into them makes me look down on it. I'm sure they all work for their intended purposes though...

I also recommend you do a video on the stealth gear USA onyx holster. I carry a glock 30 gen 4 and I forget I'm carrying it. I really think its the best iwb holster out there. I'd even be willing to send you mine to borrow if you can't get one from stealth gear.

Hey hickok45 - Been an avid watcher of your videos and enjoy all of them. I don't make many comments on youtube (if any), but I thought I'd let you know that Tucker Gun Leather was most likely the originator of this hybrid design. They call it "The Answer" because it was 'the answer' to the best of both worlds of holsters. I bought two - I believe in 2003 or 2004. At the time (from what I remember) they partnered with Comp-Tac for the polymer parts and Tucker made the leather part. (Comp-Tac only had the CTAC at the time then came out with their version of "The Answer" (MTAC I believe) a few years later.) Tucker's are extremely high quality. Really not comparable to Crossbreed. Crossbreed appeared to copy Tucker's design, and made it cheaper ($75 CB vs $125 TGL at the time if I remember right). As per Crossbreed's own website, they didn't come into business until 2005. I just thought I would let you know since you wanted to "give credit where credit is due" as you said. Tucker Gun Leather deserves a lot more credit than they get. They're expensive, but they are worth it; Especially at the time, when they were the ONLY ones with this design. -- FYI: I still wear the two Tucker holsters I bought 12-13 years ago several times a week. I have worn them for 16+ hours on several different occasions with extreme comfort. (No offense to Mark at Crossbreed. He was a nice guy. I just believe his ideas weren't 100% his own as his website may say.)

Awesome review on hybrid holsters. I swore by full kydek holster, because of the complete trigger coverage and adjustable retention. I have revisited hybrid holsters and now find myself wearing these types of holsters more now due to comfort and the balance of weight that is provided to the gun when being worn in the waistband. I’ve had an issue with my “we the people” kydex IWB holster for my M&P Bodyguard that doesn’t protect the magazine release button. I’ve lost an entire magazine loaded with .380 boolets. Any ideas or recommendations on how to prevent this from happening? Like modifications or techniques with the holster to keep the mag release from being inadvertently engaged?

I went to the Remora IWB holsters with medium sweat shield. I could never go back to one of these style IWB holster. I have more options to where I can carry, the cant and height. I don't even have to wear a belt with most shorts.

I have alien gear, Sheppard leather holster and a MIC holster used with clipdraw for pick up and go. Can't use the clipdraw with kydex holsters together so I use that when I know I'll have a period of time I just need a get up and go option or when I prefer deep concealment because I'm a little guy and I don't worry about printing to much but use it for an extra effort. People like the clipdraw but are scared to use it because Trigger is exposed, get the Mic holster too! Or any trigger guard holster works. Alien gear is my go to. Kydex is thick and durable and not blocky like some of the others preventing less bulge. Sheppard is also great. I had a Foxx holster and it was comfortable but the screws always came loose even after a couple hours. Yes I know the tricks to prevent it but why when I can use my alien gear and avoid all that. Or my Sheppard is always tight. Everyone has their own preferences. And which ever hybrid you choose they all conceal great, just find your do's and dont's with each and you'll be satisfied.

I love my Hidden Hybrid holster, from order I had it in 4 days. The felt backing soaks up sweat a lot better than leather only holsters, I haven't had any chaffing with mine. I was told by their customer support that they are currently developing a standalone mag pouch. For the price, quality and customer support I'll recommend Hidden Hybrid and I'll be buying more.

Galco King Tuk and also DeSantis Intruder. I found the heavy plastic clips are far better. The metal ones bend occasionally plus the plastic ones don't come off.

Hey Hickok, love your videos! Seems like you tend to favor the leather IWB holsters. Was just wondering if you ever tried Stealth Gear USA's ONYX mesh IWB holsters. They're ultra light and breathable so it doesn't get as hot as the leather ones... and the pull feels nice and was just wondering what you thought about that cause you mentioned weight and comfort a lot in this video.

Lucky for you that's a real compact pistol. The Crossbreed Supertuck or Minituck should do well for you. They also have a tuckable appendix holster if that would fit better with your shirt. The great thing about Crossbreed's style of hybrid holster is that you can actually tuck your shirt in over the holster. Take into account your size, the size of your shirt, and where you'd like to holster your gun. A CB at about 4-5 o'clock (for right handed) should be perfect.

Since this video is pretty old now. Alien Gear has their Shapeshift and Urban carry has lock leather. Might be worth checking out and reviewing those. The shapeshift is a new take on the hybrid holster which allows modular configuration and different carry styles. The Lock leather is a new take on the old leather single clip holster style. But with trigger guard retention.

one point to think about is the leather. the light brown leather is horse hide and it breaths the best against the skin so when it gets hot the horse hide is a little more comfortable

I noticed the n82 didn't have any imprinting I was just wandering if you carried it? One thing the pro series has is a unique retention system were you have to twist towards your body to draw the gun. I love my n82 and I think if you didn't give it a shot you should. By the way .. I have a Desantis intruder for my 1911 and I LOVE it. I got it on sale for about 30 bucks so you really can't beat it, I will say the clips are retarded stiff so I have been considering getting the J-hooks for it. I would love to hear your 2 cents on the Desantis versions and would also like to hear what John thinks about a Desantis vs Crossbreed for 1911 carry since he I assume carries his Kimber...

I carry my Glock 27 in a Comp-Tac Minotaur. Works very well. The key to any holster IMHO is a good purpose built gun belt. Makes a huge difference in comfort and accessibility.

Thanks for yet another great overview. So, naturally, I just bought a kydex-only IWB, now I'm thinking the hybrids are the way to go. And, as you say, hard to find in a store; pretty much have to order online. Especially with an oddball gun; easier if you've got a Glock 19 or SS P365. My local gunstore told me they don't carry holsters period; they'd just have to carry tons of inventory for minescule sales. I get that. I checked out Cabela's, which DOES carry holsters, but its a long aisle, both sides, and I couldn't find a model for my piece and the sales folks couldn't help me. They just said, "Aisle X, if it's not there, we don't carry it." Great.

Since your video release date preceded the founding year of "Alien Gear Holsters", (2013), that is most likely why you have no mention of the BEST IWB Holster in the world, (IMHO)? My second purchase, (the 4.0 'Shape Shifter') is en route, to carry my new (also second purchase) SCCY CPX-2 9mm, (That you don't care much for).

I've had a Garrett Industries "Silent Thunder" IWB holster ( awesome little, high quality holster- custom made to each firearm; just a tad pricey, but unreal quality - leather made inside of a single piece of firm kydex). Had an Old faithful that, once broke in, was really really comfy, and their customer service I guarantee is second to none. The question is ( the $1M question I guess) - how does one determine what is ACTUALLY the BEST IWB holster? I will be carrying one of three weapons or may rotate and don't want my holster budget to rival what I spent on the firearms, LOL. S&W M&Pc .45 ACP, Springfield XDM 3.8" .45 ACP, and a yet to be determined 1911 (suggestions on a smaller 1911 welcome). I know this is almost a rhetorical question ( about the holsters and the 1911's), but any suggestions ( especially from you Mr, Hickok if you read this) would be most appreciated.

For my Sig P365, the IWB holsters are nice but the abrasive grip panels on the gun tend to rub my skin while under my shirt, it would be nice to have a leather or composite backing behind the grip to prevent this. I just ordered the N8 OT2 G2, we'll see how it feels when it comes in.

What about a IWB holster to go with Office attire? Meaning slacks with a dress shirt tucked in 100% of the time? The belt clips will show. Any suggestions?

hickok45 Unfortunately, none of those companies offer a design for my s&w 457, which is a great little gun. Only a couple of the companies offered designs for my 5906, but that's an impractical conceal carry gun.

just got old faithful holster and belt for under 100$ to the door. 5 minutes to screw together and perfect the fit/draw pressure with belt on...disappeared under dress shirt golf style and feels like nothing there after 15 minutes. couldn't be happier, and i like that the kydex,isn't riveted, you can change screw length and spacer for looser ir tighter fit etc. like the crossbreed, but after years of wear the riveted area became looser than i prefer and no adjustement easily..

@pabackwoodsboys If you are looking for a holster to wear if u are in dress cloths all the time and dont mind an owb and i see u are carrying the xds so its small look into the sneaky pete looks just like an over size cell phone case and now days with some size of cell phones its will look like thats wat it is a flip style but the xds and something that size works great and it fits in with ur cloths if u have to be in dress all the time and able to carry

you ought to do a holster give away for all your dedicated subscribers lol. maybe you could have a contest that in 20 or 30 words or less wins by giving the best answer for anti-gun control or even better have a 50 or 100 words or less letter to a congressman or senator or any politician who has a say in the gun control issue and choose the best and most convincing argument for the right to bear arms and this way it would get more people involved and hopefully make a positive impact.

Part 2 looking for quality well made leather or kydex IWB holster for my Walther PPQ 9MM I also currently using a Galco IWB #H119H0-KT24BB holster it just is not ideal. Also have another PPQ FIRST EDITION never used,FN FNS 9,MM & a SIG PRO 2340 40 S&W Trying to get holsters for All of them. Please give me advice if anyone can help. My job of 30 years sent to the cezch Republic & Mexico last year my gun hobbie is all I have left. Still looking for honest God bless you all keep America strong.
