I found testing that busing in the box and re-recording on another track lowers the db range too which surprised me, the fact is that the audio recording in digital is still compressing dynamic range from what you are hearing live from an instrument being recorded so you probably wanna push db range beyond what you expect to hear at least on the final output to mastering. Try it out, shove a prerecorded song into your daw and bus it and re-record and hear the difference, it’s the best guide to the actual sound that digital has vs what you start with in incremental steps the more you ‘dub’ each new take

Modern convertors are so good now that you could do quite a few passes in out of a DAW before noticing any real difference.

Probably hundreds of passes...

The typical back and forth of AD/DA if you are doing a few times 2/3 times you can’t tell.

Agreed! With today's converters, we are talking about VERY subtle changes.

What funny in last 2 years, new Adam DSP speakers and the new Focusrite red interface still using cirrus logic's 2005 released converter(CS 5381), and UA volt series and Black lion audio's interface are using 2003's converter (CS4272). It seems like the entry level gear improved so much in the past 20 years, but the absurd fact is they still using the converters same as 20 years ago. So many good converters has been invented in these years, but the designers in big company don't want to put resource to implement the new converter, shame.

Can you recommend an interface with a coverter that was released recently? If there even are any in a similar price range like focusrite or ua volt. Would love to read more about that. Thanks!

Anyone that is worried about converters these days is missing the point. Its effectively a non-issue on anything but the lowest quality gear regardless of passes.
