Just a couple of interesting plants we have in our garden. Teh Hybird pineapple plant is between 5-7 years old and this is the first fruit that its grown since we've planted it. When I bought it there were about 15-20 tiny pinepapples on it but they all eventually fell off. This one is bigger and not falling off.
The pitcher plant is something cool I picked up about the same time. Originally I had it planted in our yard and it was struggling to stay alive, it was getting too much sun. In this spot it has grown very large as you see, and pretty much taekn over. It's a great plant for looks, converation, and of course, it eats bugs!

nepenthes dont close lids , the bugs that fall inside are trapped as the inner surface is hairy smooth and slippery for them to come out. and they die and body parts are disintegrated by bacteria in it. please do not share unverified info, beautiful plants and a lovely garden you've got there. happy gardening.

Oh the one with closed lids are new baby pitchres that haven't opened yet. They are inflating and filling up with digestive juice. Once they are done growing the lid opens and it's ready for bugs to fall in. I think you have the hybrid N. x ventrata. If so it's very easy to propigate. You can cut the stems at every three leaf nodes then place them in a cup of water. Make sure the cup is dark and cover with tin foil so less evaporates. In about 3-6 months it will make roots and new shoots from

the original leaves and then you can plant them in nutrient poor soil. I'll make a video soon and show my cuttings of my ventrata that have rooted. I have a few nepenthes videos if you want to see them. I think in my latest one I show them sitting in water.

Nepenthes are a great plants. The lid doesn't close. The bugs drink the nectar around the peristome and fall in and drown. They can't excape because the insides are too slippery.

Thanks, thats really good info! I haven't found anymore of these since I bought this one. I didn't realize it would take 6 months, thats pretty long. I thought there maybe a way for this one to root itself too, its gotten so big I thought maybe some of the parts sitting on the ground may take root over time.

That makes sense. I have seen them with the lids closed though, maybe thats just how they grow? And yes they are great plants, I have to figure out how to propagate this plant, I'd love to have a few more around the property.

I think its not a hybrid pineaple plant. I got many of those in my yard and in my village. Its a wild type. We use it as a medicine to treat kidney stone. Juat cut it as normal pineaple and cut into cubes and blender it with some water. Then just drink it once in two week.
