Thank you! The biggest help was the fact that I struggled with vocals and made the most of possible mistakes, observed and analyzed them and slowly figured out how to fix them and get on the right track, which took many years and much longer time than any of my students need to sound and feel great when doing vocals. I needed to observe my body very closely, look for various relations, connections, read a lot about voice emission, anatomy, the way how muscles work etc. (Complete Vocal Technique book helped A LOT!), experiment with different approaches, reset my whole vocal technique 3 times and start from scratch whenever I hit an unbreakable wall etc. It was tough as hell and only because of lack better things in my life and my determination, I didn't quit. Now I understand the source of my problems but that's another story. What helped me to set a foundation for becoming a coach was also the fact that my friends knew I practice a lot, and even if I'm not the best, I know a thing or two about the technique so they asked me for advices, and it turned out that the things I told them were helpful (it was in 2014, 1,5 years after I started to practice). This is partially why I decided to teach - people that asked me for help found my advices useful. The first official lessons I conducted were in late 2015 or very early 2016. Learning about struggles of other people, figuring out how to help them progress and overcome various challenges was the biggest help in building the understanding of various types of vocals, and things that help to improve, and the things that should be avoided. Spending the most of my free time with vocals was also a huge help (reading, learning, experimenting, watching tutorials, talking with vocalists, creating own exercises, analyzing mistakes and good things, looking for clues that could help me improve etc.). I was also a sales coach for about 7 months in 2016 and it also was a great help for learning how to efffectively help others to get a grasp of various concepts. Another two things that are helpful is a basic understanding of psychology and physical condition, and their impact on doing vocals and other areas of life. It's surprising what things can be helpful for learning and teaching vocals.

I have a sore throat when I practice the sounds, is this normal? Could it be due to excessive vibration of the vocal cords?
@sibilaextremevocal
@sibilaextremevocal 21 күн бұрын
Hello, discomfort is tolerable, but only if it's very delicate and disappears after a few minutes, otherwise it might indicate technical problems. Those are usually: 1. Improper breath support (not coordinating the core muscles with the voice, not engaging the core muscles enough or tightening the abdomen too hard), 2. Too high air pressure or too much air in the sound, 3. Forcing the sound and constricting the larynx too hard, 4. Improper placement of the scream (too close to the vocal folds, which feels lower in the larynx; too high which makes the sound feel "gritty" or too much "robotic"). It would be easier to advise something specific if I had a chance to listen to your practice. Feel free to send me a recording on email - xvocalcenter@gmail.com - I will gladly help :)
