"You miscalculated this one." Hi Ayush, I randomly came across your channel and have been glued to it since last month. Your videos are great, they have realistic points and the amount of information and calculations you share here is just commendable. But here in this video, I believe you miscalculated. While calculating the quantity of petrol consumed you forgot to consider that a strong hybrid car runs on a 60-40 ratio. Means 60% of the distance (kms) it is running on battery and 40% of kms it is running on petrol. So during the time it is running on battery your fuel is not being consumed but still your car is running and that needs to be taken into account too. So while calculating the weekly, monthly or yearly cost the quantity of petrol consumed will be 60% less than that of the petrol engine or the mild hybrid engine in comparison here. And hence the cost difference would also be less and recovered in almost half the times as compared to figures shown in your video. If you feel i am correct pls mention this in your video as a lot of people now follow you and make decisions based on these videos. And please correct me here if i am wrong. Regards, Seemant Mullick
@AayushTanwar
@AayushTanwar Жыл бұрын
Hi sir, thank you for sharing your views. However, 1. The 60-40 ratio is not constant. It varies depending upon the city-highway mix. For example, running at a high speed on the highway would keep the engine running for longer periods, while keeping the car on idle mode in city traffic would use the battery more. 2. Even if the car uses the engine for traction 40% of the time, that wouldn't translate to lesser fuel consumption by exactly 60%, because even when the battery mode is on, the engine has to run intermittently to charge it. Coming up with an equation to determine the relation between engine-battery runs vs fuel consumed/saved is not linear. It involves multiple variables because our driving styles can not be constant either. The showroom salesmen/executives mention 60-40 just to give a rough estimate to a layman. It is because of this that I considered the ARAI figures as standard for both mild & strong hybrids, to keep things simple and easy to understnad. ARAI has standard test procedures and puts the test cars through the same cycle under similar conditions to arrive at a figure. There is no externality changing the conditions of every test cycle. It's a fixed procedure. However, one may make changes to the calculations as per one's needs/requirements/circumstances as my calcualtions aren't 100% accurate and foolproof either.
@SeemantMullick
@SeemantMullick Жыл бұрын
@@AayushTanwar well i agree that it will not always be a 60-40 ratio and i totally agree with the ARAI figures to be considered as the base. But my point was that whatever difference that maybe in, it will change and lower down the figures of petrol consumed as compared to any other options. Anyways good to hear back from you 🙂 Keep up the good work, you are doing a great job here👌👍

Excellent explanation buddy You hav considered all the aspect of Govt people town planning n global factors.. Yes simple n straightforward explanation Hats off Still u hav not touched the on road price of vehicles on the basis of Petrol or diesel, sub 4 metre or more than 4 meter, Engine cubic capacity ( 1.5 liter or 2.0 litre).. Der are many things to discuss, as u said.. In the end it’s most Valuable economic Podcast Keep ur up
@AayushTanwar
@AayushTanwar Жыл бұрын
Thank you sir. 1. The onraod price has been factored in for cars of the same segment. I have mentioned the insurance, registration cost, TCS etc as they differ while other charges remaning constant would cancel out in the price difference calculation. 2. Regarding the car length, engine capacity etc., hybrids are treated same as petrol vehicles. It is only the EVs that gain a GST benefit.

Hi bro, Good explanation. Kindly advise me which one I choose, I have 17-19 L budget Yearly 4000-5000 km running NRI Milage, safety, average boot space reqd. Less maintenance charge reqd. Currently I am using Tiago. I am looking NeoDrive V or Hybrid G. Which one I need to select.

@vanshpanjwani1146 Жыл бұрын
In real life neo will give 12-13 kmpl , hybrid will give around 20 kmpl , (both in city traffic) . now calculate plus after 8-10 or may be 12 yrs , hybrid battery might need replacement which cost 2-2.5 lacs now and after around 10 yrs whatever its price happens to be , we can't say .

Even though as a developing nation we might be more focused on mileage and running costs but Toyota hybrid focuses on technology innovation and environment. It is a less polluting vehicle which should be also appreciated and some folks (very less) buy it for that reason.

Also just add PV of future cash outflows to your calculations as rupee in 2022 will not be equal to rupee spent or saved in 2030. Thanks for the valuable info.

Aayush ji, Thanks for explaining in detail. I guess you should also a few more costs to make the working more robust like Maintenance expenses (Diesel cars are bad in this aspect, at the least the local dealers fleece you) & reasonable repair costs, parts change costs etc. You could also mention at what running kms per day, a Strong Hybrid makes sense etc. I imagine if this site gets more popular, you can indirectly influence car prices which is good for all concerned.

My daily running is 75km and I offer carpool which earns me an average of 400 rs per day. Planning to buy Hyryder Hybrid S variant which will cost me around 17L on-road.

Nicely discription, you have gone deeply to decide the running cost of all theses types of vehicles, thank you so much for this comparative information, but I like powerful & economical Diesel car, best is Swift.

Very nice analysis. Hats off to you for considering interest components also. Example of education loan n it's repayment was also ausum. Government has to come forward to provide subsidies or tax benefits on hybrid cars also then only it will benefit common man n nature as well. Thank you.

Hi Aayush, One small concern in the video. When petrol and hybrid are compared directly you take the claims of company. However, realtime mileages are different and slight negotiation of 10-15% kmpl than claim in highways. When it comes to city mileage, petrol car will be around 50% lesser than the claimed figures where as hybrid versions still with same 10-15 % variance. So the breakeven will be much more earlier for city commuters, like around 1.5-2 years for a 100 km daily commute and around 2-2.5 years for 50 km daily commute. This is my understanding. Correct me if I’m wrong and I have any deviations or misconceptions.

Very valid point. People who mostly drive in the city will likely cover up the additional cost much earlier.

Let me give you some numbers as food for thought. It saves around RS 2.2 per kM when you drive hybrid city over petrol city. And now taking the zx cvt option into consideration there is a 4+ lakh difference in cost. So 4 lakh and just 2.2 rs per km. Do you realise now? Ok ill give the break even number as well. 180,000 km is the break even point for fuel cost in delhi right now in 2023.

Very good analysis but My friend have sonet and he get milega in city 10-12. And his monthly spend on fuel is 7000-8000 so if he will purchase hyryder than he will save per year 42000 and in a 10 year 4 to 5 lakh max. And also hybrid looks more premium and futurestic. You can't compare with petrol car.

Good analysis, 2 cents from my side: - Hyryder V smart hybrid variant and V hybrid variant has difference in feature as well, that should also be adjusted from the cost. - Petrol inflation is not adjusted, it's not right to calculate future savings basis today's rates - Finally, now there are official tested on road mileage figures available that should be considered in place of ARAI mileage, the actual mileage in city is somewhere around 15 vs 23 Also, if you look closely mild hybrid V variant is comparable to strong hybrid G variant and then the difference comes to 40-50k which is nothing and taking a strong hybrid G @17.5 lacs looks like a steal deal. Let me know your thoughts!

What an in-depth analysis, clearly it opens the eyes of the buyer, one has to think and buy, not just go by what is marketed by car companies. At the end of the day it’s individual choice. Your analysis was fantastic and one should factor before buying any vehicle

Hi Abhay, yea I agree that the real world mileage figures would be different from the ARAI ones. I came up with a Part-2 of this video to accomodate the same. You may check it out here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oIqWhnedZqiLr6c
