@@hoohoohoblin It's not that Hydroflask is bad, it's just that Thermos is wicked good. I have an ~8 year old 24oz Thermos tumbler that has been dropped more times than I can count, & it STILL keeps drinks/soup hot for a healthy 18 hrs & cold for well over 24. Blows my 2 new-ish yetis out of the water by quiiiite a bit time-wise. Plus when I bought the thermos it was less than half the price of an equivalent yeti

I used a hydro flask water bottle as a hot food container, all I can say is hydro flask sucks, doesn't hold heat very long at all, bought a thermos and now I'm happy

Same here. I have the thermos but was considering hydro flask for the wide mount but it’s a no after that leaking heat. Thank for ro doing the quality testing for us 🥰

What a great review and thank you for saving me from being irritated with Hydroflask. I love them for drinks, and was going to get one for soup. Your review saved me from paying 50% more for a worse product.

This is so unfortunate because the only hot food that’s practical to carry in a Thermos are soups, pastas, or other foods that’s all mixed together and you still need to empty it out onto another container to eat it because it’s so tall and narrow. You’d think that by 2023 they’d have figured out different container types. Oh well.
@hoohoohoblin
@hoohoohoblin Жыл бұрын
I agree. I wonder if it’s because it’s difficult to build a plastic lid that keeps heat in as well as the middle walls. There must be a reason they all have to be tall.

It’s give or take. Miirs and Hydro Flask opted for the wide mouth that’s wider mouth, but doesn’t retain heat as well. Thermos might be harder to eat out of, but it will retain heat better.

Thanks for giving attention to the lids. I dislike the jars with lids that are hard to handwash. Molds are just gross on food containers.

Good for a few hours only. Ignoring caps or perhaps thickness of vacuum walls, the larger mouth diameter gives more surface in the neck to heat up the plug/cap as well as outer wall. Sadly the best option is a small mouth for broth and maybe one of these to keep solids close to edible.

I have the taller drink version of that Thermos and it is my all-time favorite. My Teavana keeps drinks hotter slightly longer, but the paint is beginning to chip off the bottom where I slightly dented it. The debates or comparisons of Yeti tumblers vs. OzarkTrails' nearly identical ones seems silly to me now, because it has no insulated lid, so the lid leaks at the straw area and the upper half looses heat near the lid - just as you have shone. Thermos is the way to go - stainless steel lasts longer, of course...shows less wear and tear.

When we stay in a hotel (as cheap as pos lol), we take our food flasks and have oats for breakfast. We put in the oats. add boiling water (from the kettle(in UK)), stir and then seal. Go get showered,shaved etc, then open the flasks and they are coked and very hot. Stir. Add syrup/fruit etc then eat. If you like to use milk, then add milk powder(use freeze dried) with the water). Works every time and dirt cheap!

Yes. That works great. Sometimes I even do steel cut oats, which take a couple of hours to cook properly.

We have the highsierra and it sucks balls. They say it stays hot for 12 hours but its false advertisement. They should work on their jars. I wish that thermoflask made food jars because they do what they are suppose to.

pretty sure yours is broken the hydro flask, it shouldn't be leaking that much heat, I always test the hydroflask when I get it with boiling water, if you can feel the heat on the outside, the seal isn't there I believe.

I don’t think so. I’ve seen other people review it as well. Hydro flask water bottles work great and hold in heat and cold for a long long time. I think this food jar is just a bad design.

It may be because too much heat escapes out of the lid if the lid is big.

if only there were an affordable vacuum thermal flask with a wide rim and insulated double lid.
@hoohoohoblin

I agree. There must be a reason they don’t make them. Maybe having the big lid means they can’t retain heat as well.

I've just tried the Thermos Funtainer 160z and its almost perfect. Wider rim that its easier to reach in with a sponge to clean and I find it only marginally worse than the Thermos King Classic at temperature retention because the outer lid doesnt completely encase the inner lid due to the wider the rim. Rated hot/cold for 7/9 hours vs the King 9/14 hours so still better than others and good enough to cook rice with preheating. Worth a try for one of the stainless steel ones, given how affordable they are. I think I will be buying a second soon enough.@@hoohoohoblin

I use the Thermos one. Eating out of it sucks (Steak and Eggs). Was hoping the Hydro flask would work. Oh well
@hoohoohoblin
@hoohoohoblin 2 жыл бұрын
I was thinking that as well. I think maybe the problem is that the jar with a big wide lid just can’t keep the heat in as well as a tall narrow one. I wonder if they could invent a lid with a vacuum in it, so it insulate as well as the walls of the jar.
