Hydrometer Analysis of Soil | Sedimentation Analysis | GSD | Classification of Soil | Pawan Kumar

The hydrometer method is used to determine the particle size distribution of fine-grained soils passing through 75-micron sieve. It is one of the commonly used methods to accurately determine particle size distribution of a soil sample. Hydrometer analysis uses Stokes' law to calculate the size of soil particles from the speed at which they separate from liquid suspension.

Dear Raj, For dispersing agent correction, take two 1000 ml measuring cylinders, fill one with water only and take the hydrometer reading, then fill the other with water and dispersing agent (same amount) and check the hydrometer. The difference between the two readings is the dispersing agent correction. thanks
