Hi Hannah... great, Thank you for the information and demonstration. Can you tell me if i harvest the lettuce (maybe not a whole head at a time though) will it regrow from that plant once or twice more like I've seen on other videos? Or do I just start over? And also, since the is a hydroponic method, can I grow them indoors provided I give them enough sunlight? I live in AZ and the sun is just too hot, plus I want to grow them outside of the normal growing season. Thank you!
@FOATE4 жыл бұрын
If you're harvesting a few leaves at a time you can leave it and it will regrow. For heads it's better to start over because roots will die off because there's not enough leaf mass to support. The dying roots can then start to rot and cause problems that way.
@mst67344 жыл бұрын
@@FOATE so that big bucket she used might not be ideal if you harvest the whole plant then? something smaller would probably work too

Such a simple, clear presentation! BTW, If you go to the bakery department at the supermarket, they usually have some food grade buckets they’ll let you have for free.

if the water in the bucket goes above 68 degrees you will get root rot, also no oxygen in the bucket doesn't sound like a great idea. I would grow it indoors for hot weather areas and add an airstone to oxygen the roots
@coreyrees8404 жыл бұрын
If you don’t remove the plant entirely from the net pots and just cut at the base, could you then in theory leave the remaining bit the bucket and regrow new lettuce from those existing roots? Similar to the whole “veggies from the the supermarket left in a glass thing” like lettuce and green onions etc you see trending?

Plastic, plastic everywhere. I do hope these are recycled or repurposed items and not new purchases. It would be nice to make suggestions in your videos regarding plastic use and the importance of minimizing them. We should discourage as much as we can new purchases of plastic products. Stop supporting the industry for the sake of our one and only planet.
@sleddy014 жыл бұрын
I'm sure people can figure that out for themselves. Government extensions need to appeal to the masses and the masses have plastic buckets.

The water in the buckets lasts how long? I have a bird bath I have to clean everyday because of fungus. How long before you have to refill the buckets with fresh water to keep healthy plants is my question?
@zacharygarza18475 жыл бұрын
That is because your bird water is in contact with the sun; which promotes the growth of algae. She didn’t mention it but her water isn’t in contact with any sun, this is very important in order for this process to work.

Very well done. Do you let the root system grow again or are disposing of it?
@brianmi404 жыл бұрын
It will regrow, but after some number of cuttings will be less tasty and suggesting you start over, in fact, you can regrow just about any store bought vegetable in the Fresh Produce section: Green onions (keep bottom 2", place in water a couple days to root, then transplant to soil) Yellow onions (cut the root part with about 1/2" or so of "root" and set either directly in wet soil, or in water for a couple days, then soil) Carrots (keep about 1/2" with the top, and plant with top barely showing in soil) Lettuce (trim for use and leave 1" near the stalk, set in water a couple days for rooting, then transplant to soil) etc. etc. Rockwool squares (Amazon) will let you start about any seed (tomato, pepper) directly from the fruit/vegetable, and for many/most plants and store herbs you can buy as fresh as possible, select the greenest stalks, trim at 45 degrees, and they will root in water in a Rockwool. Same thing when you grow your plant: cut a stalk or two to regrow it. Pretty much if people were smart, in one trip to the store for just the healthy food that you eat, you could start your own garden...

The 3-1-2 ratio of N-P-K in Foliage Pro 9-3-6 results in greater mineral uptake by foliage plants thereby reducing harmful salt build-up and eliminating deficiencies. Foliage-Pro outperforms all other fertilizers in low light environments and Interiorscapers across the country use Foliage-Pro to maintain healthy, controlled growth on foliage plants and trees.

I tried using distilled white vinegar to adjust the pH and it developed algae. All the rockwool turned green. Is there any type of "fix" for this?
@PlasmaOne2 жыл бұрын
Only fix for algae is light proofing the container. Some algae growth on the rockwool cubes is normal, not a whole lot you can do about that. When you put a bunch of nutrients in water and give it light you get a bunch of algae growth

I would use a under bed storage box. They are about 6 inches deep. Perfect for salad. And it takes up less space but you would have to monitor the water level or create a basin with a 20 or 30 gallon Rubber made container and run a pump. yes it would use electricity but would be well worth it. But great video. Thank you.

Great video. Thanks for posting. I have some questions. At the end of the process, there is a lot of water left. Is there some special reason for 5 gallon or we can use smaller buckets?
@graebeard6882 Жыл бұрын
On one of these types of videos, it was mentioned that one lettuce plant typically requires one gal of solution. Since the lid is too small for five plants there is leftover solution. I don't know how long the individual plants continue growing after harvesting SOME of the leaves, so it will continue using up the solution. I would imagine that if it keeps growing you could refill the bucket.
