To answer the question of organic vs non-organic, one must first understand what they mean by these terms. Plants absorb nutrients from the soil through the roots; the nutrients being inorganic elements like magnesium, nitrogen, phosphorous, potassium. The distinction between organic and inorganic is simple: that which is derived from living matter, is organic. What isn't derived from living matter is inorganic. The nutrients in hydroponics are inorganic salts like magnesium sulphate that dissociate in water and are absorbed readily by the plants. Though the sources of the nutrients may seem like they are man made, the raw materials used have natural origins.
