@Just4Growers 7 жыл бұрын
+Glebiys LA Sounds like you have hard water, with lots of carbonates and bicarbonates present. Meanwhile, pH down is usually phosphoric acid. H3PO4. Sometimes nitric acid HNO3. Sometimes (as in the case of GH pH down) a blend (although mostly phosphoric I believe). When these acids are added to water / nutrient solution they disassociate putting free H+s into the solution. The reason you are having to add a lot of acid is because of the presence of things like calcium and magnesium carbonate and bicarbonate (e.g. Calcium carbonate - CaCO3) This is the chemical reaction if you really want to know! :) 3CaCO3 + 2H3PO4 -> Ca3(PO4)2 + 3H2CO3 → Ca3(PO4)2 + 3H2O + 3CO2 Or in English: Calcium Carbonate + Phosphoric Acid → Calcium Phosphate + water + Carbon dioxide. So instead of your phosphoric acid simply putting more H+ (protons) into your nutrient solution to lower the pH, you're creating more fertilizer in the form of a salt, calcium phosphate, and carbon dioxide too as your phosphoric acid reacts with the calcium carbonate. ;) Of course, once all the carbonates / bicarbonates have reacted with the acid then, and only then, will it start to raise the pH in the longer term. Hence it seems like you have to add a lot before you get anywhere. You may wish to use nitric acid in the grow stage and phosphoric in the bloom - but be especially careful when handling nitric acid (or any acid!) as it can burn horribly if spilt. Always work with dilute 1:100 solutions of acid - but that solution should be made with distilled or RO water. Anyway, then you'll be adding more nitrates in grow and more phosphates in bloom - when your plants need those the most. I saw the other comment and should point out that calcium phosphate and magnesium phosphate do not cause dioecious plants to express hermaphroditism. Sometimes large swings in pH can cause that, which is where the confusion might originate. If you are handling your nutrient solution pH correctly then that won't be an issue.
