Looks identical to my Craftsman PYT 9000 (2011) I have. Mine is labeled "Hydro-Static 618-0319." Still runs well. Thanks for the video. I've not found ANY better KZbin. Update; I meant to say Hydro-Gear. Upon pulling the top fill plug and removing the expansion tank my HG was full to the top. I syringed out using livestock syringe about an inch and half in diameter by five inches and clear poly tubing. Put a piece of bailing wire inside the tube to direct deep into the axel. Got 50 ounces out and could see no more oil. Refilled with new back to the top. Tractor Supply store had Hydro-Static oil on the shelf. One gallon $29. May my tractor will work another 11 years now. But will change the trans at three per your recommendation. Thanks.

I wasn’t concerned until you presented how filthy and contaminated the fluid was....I need to service mine STAT.. Commercial lawn tractor spin on oil filter engine and grease Zerks everywhere for long life with proper maintenance. Even a little dashboard computer that tells you when to service parts of the tractor based on hours of use. All this to ensure a long life machine. Yet the transmission sits in its own filth, ignored, forgotten and dies prematurely....nice.

Do you happen to know what size of wrench the fill plug is supposed to be? 6mm is far too small, 8mm too big, 7mm isn't part of the metric wrench sets. The standard metric set..1/4" is too small as well and I don't have anything larger at the moment. It's the exact same transmission and your insert used to remove the fill plug is slightly larger than 1/4". So probably 5/16". Absolute cock suckers that will burn in hell that made these transmissions so difficult to service like this.

If did not mention in the video, then I don't know the size.

@@repairvehicle It's a weird one! It is either a 6.5mm or 9/32". 1/4" is too small and 5/16" is too large. 6mm is too small and 7mm is too large. My guess is it is 6.5mm or 9/32". I got it out using a 1/4" pulled to a hard angle to grip enough to remove the filler plug. It almost stripped out, but got it. Judging by the filth of the oil from my transmission, this is something that MUST be done every season with engine oil. These being sealed and only magnets to capture particles is a crime. Flushing mine out until it comes out clear. Third time and still dark. Good thing I got 2 gallons of hydrostatic oil. Thanks again for making this video and bringing this to people's attention. Lot of money spent on this equipment to be sabotaged like this. Subscribed.

Thanks heaps mate. I have and MTD ride on and the transmission is identical. Great video. Lots of good info and all of it helpful. No gimmicks or annoying acts. I searched for ages to try and find a video like this. My mtd ride on mower would drive around fine bit once it got warm after 30 min it couldn't make it up any hill as the transmission was overheating from lack of fluid. Took my mower apart looking for a full plug and couldn't see it because it was covered in crap and looked like a washer! My mtd 42inch 16.5 hp has the exact same transmission as the mower in your video for anyone else in my situation

@@repairvehicle I did like the video, but the reason why I watch your video is I had to come to that myself, it's the 1500 LTX, I knew that I was going to have to replace the bearing soon in my mower deck so I went ahead and while I was doing that I've looked at your video so I can do mine but while I was doing my hydrostatic drive on the oil where you pumped yours out I don't know if you're hydrostatic axle is the same, but mine had a dream on the bottom of the hydrostatic drive there's a little round column on mine in the middle of it has a drain plug right in the center of it, But anywho I wanted to throw that in there about mine I don't know if yours is the same but if you haven't looked which most possibly you already have there's underneath my 1500, and also wanted to comment on but even though mine was a bigger tractor, it only took the same amount of oil was that yours did.

There is a filter inside the transmission. You can get parts. Seals our also available. If anyone having trouble getting the plug out just give it some taps on top. Works most of the time . But ust hard enough that you don't damage the housing or plug.

Thank you for the video! I also use Amsoil products and have good luck with them. For vehicle manual transmissions and differentials they seems to retain color longer than even Red Line for me. Anyway I am in the market for new lawn tractor and left messages to other videos of why wouldn't vacuuming out from the fill valve work. If you do this every year, your transmission will work far longer. Sort of like draining sealed automatic transmission and replacing with the exact amount a few times to get a high percentage of new fluid in with the least hassle. Cheers!!!

This is one of the best explained video's I've seen on You Tube! Very well done. I was thinking about, should I change my transmission fluid in my Husqvarna lgt2554, so I looked, it doesn't say anything about it in the manual. So I start looking on line, and you tube. I purchased my riding tractor on 5-26-2011, so, over 10 year's ago. I've never changed the transmission fluid, although I service it every year. It has to be very dirty. I've not had any problems with my Husqvarna, not even a flat tire, I did replace the battery once. I haven't looked yet, but do you think my Husqvarna lgt2554 will be similar ? It has a Tuff Torq hydrostatic transmission. I will get my son-in-law to help me do this. Thank you for posting this great video! Thanks, John

I tried to remove my fill plug on my Cub Cadet SLTX 1054 and snapped off two of those driver bits, it's a perfect fit, but the small detent in the bit where the collar of the drill driver locks onto, is where it kept snapping, I've soaked it in PB Blaster, will let it set overnight and try again. According to Cub Cadet's Parts Diagram it's a SAE #6 plug, but the #6 Allen Socket I have isn't as snug of a fit, as the backwards driver bit.

I have a Craftsman LT1000 that is about 15 years old. My manual lists 20W-50 Oil and then it says "72.8 ounces" in the parts section.
